Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating daily operations within the plant.

What you'll do

  • Manage and Organize daily operations of the manufacturing plant and monitor performance.
  • Provide safety leadership to all personnel at the location.
  • Organize and maintain a safe workplace according to legal and SMS group standards. Consistently and visibly supports the safety program. Fosters a proactive culture that encourages the creation of preventative measures. Assess and mitigate risk and possible safety hazards in all aspects of operations. Coordinates with Safety Department representatives to train and educate employees on proper procedures.
  • Coordinates with the Quality Department to ensure quality standards, processes, and procedures and adhered to. Ensure that customers receive quality products that are free from defects and meet their needs. Monitor performance of quality control systems to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Implement & execute effective workforce management practices to strategically optimize the productivity of employees to ensure that all resources are in the right place at the right time. Forecasting, staffing, scheduling, asset tracking, and making adjustments in real-time when unexpected changes occur.
  • Utilize production planning methods to maximize profitability while maintaining a satisfied customer base. This includes forecasting demand, reviewing inventory, determining & selecting the best options for production, monitoring and controlling processes, and assessing & evaluating performance.
  • Assess production capacity to make sure supply chain is equipped to meet demand. Identify how and when to scale, identify bottlenecks, and mitigate risk.
  • Identify and reduce business expenses and variances to increase profits. Recognize and reduce waste in existing processes.
  • In collaboration with the HR Department – recruit, hire, onboard, train, and engage employees, identify and resolve workplace problems, manage employee performance, and forecast employment needs.
  • Improve operational management systems, processes and best practices. Develop and/or revise processes to increase productivity and enhance performance.
  • Develop budgets, capital plans and execute to meet operational needs.
    1. Partner with accounting to ensure accurate reporting of data to upper management.
    2. Budgeting for new and replacement machinery, research and development and the production of new products, new plants and other major capital expenditures.
    3. Assess prospective project's lifetime cash inflows and outflows to determine whether the potential returns that would be generated meet a sufficient target benchmark.
  • Monitor and manage supply chain to ensure timely delivery of purchased goods to meet customer demand. Monitor working capital and work with necessary personnel to minimize working capital required to meet customer demand.
  • Maintain continual communication with all customers and employees. Encourage feedback and respond in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a mentor to employees. Act with consistency, fairness, equality, empathy, confidence, and enthusiasm to motivate and inspire employees to meet organization goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate and ensure that planned maintenance is occurring for the equipment and facility.
  • Maintaining high ethical standards in all business dealings.
  • Ensure employees understand company policies and procedures and that they are followed at all times. Uses a structured and thorough approach to implement change.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises 5-7 direct reports: 15-50 indirect reports; Safety Specialist, Quality Specialist, Purchasing Specialist, Scheduler/Estimator, Project Managers, Operations Supervisors, Operations Specialist, Group Leaders

What you'll need

  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required. A degree in business, engineering or technical field is preferred.
  • Five to ten years of applicable operations management experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of operations management principles and practices.
  • Possesses social perceptiveness — is aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Displays persistence in the face of obstacles.
  • Able to utilize active listening skills — giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of HR principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems (ADP).
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices and reporting of financial data.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
