The Position: The Temporary Baking School Assistant provides support to both the Baking School Instructor and students in the classroom, working under the direction of the Baking School Instructor. The primary responsibility of the Baking School Assistant is to create a fun and welcoming learning environment for Baking School students while executing a demanding logistical plan for the implementation of the class curriculum. The assistant serves as an ambassador of the King Arthur brand, executing our vision to educate and inspire.

Schedule: Part-Time, 8 - 10 hours per week including at least one weekend shift each week.


Reports to Baking School Lead Instructor

Location: Burlington, WA

Pay: $19.38 - $24.00 based on candidate qualifications

This is a temporary role, which could also serve as an internship opportunity for a student in a culinary program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sets up the classroom, including equipment, ingredient and student needs
  • Sustains a clean classroom during class hours through clearing student workspace, washing dishes and cleaning common work areas
  • Assists instructor in cleaning the classroom after class
  • Helps execute class curriculum, keeping time and overseeing production
  • Assists in baking and packaging student product
  • Supplies students with ingredient, equipment and customer service, while maintaining a welcoming classroom atmosphere
  • Provides technical assistance and support to students as needed
  • Prepares for future class offerings by organizing materials, equipment and ingredients as well as executing advance prep

Minimum job requirements

  • Minimum 3 years baking experience
  • Strong culinary/baking background; Culinary degree preferred
  • Teaching experience a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to work well on a team
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Creativity, flexibility and the ability to work well under pressure to accommodate a wide range of both instructor and student needs
  • Excellent customer service skills

    1. This is a physically demanding role, requiring standing, walking and frequently lifting for up to 10 hours a day
    2. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
    3. Must be able to operate classroom equipment, including ovens and large mixers
  • Work environment
    1. Classroom, dish room or outdoors at the wood-fired oven; temperatures can range from 50°ree;F - 90°ree;F
