Function:

The Day Treatment Supervisor of Behavior Management Support facilitates an organized staff response to a child’s challenges to productively participate in the therapeutic classroom program. The Supervisor oversees the process of coaching Day Treatment staff in behaviors that result from the students social, emotional, and learning difficulties. The Supervisor directly supervises Behavior Support Counselors.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Directs, coordinates and supervises the activities of the Behavior Support Counselors.

  • Provides supervision to support staff consistent with the philosophy of the agency and the program.

  • Conducts annual performance evaluations for staff supervised.

  • Creates and maintains the climate of the behavior management support program as prescribed by program policy.

  • Supervises support staff, and coaches other Day Treatment staff, in using a wide variety of agency approved counseling and intervention techniques to assist children in resolving situations that prevent them from productively participating in the classroom program.

  • Communicates, consults, and collaborates with appropriate staff (e.g. Director of Day Treatment, Social Work Supervisor, classroom staff, clinical staff, Psychiatrist, Nurse, School Psychologist) regarding the implementation of student crisis intervention, behavior management, safety and treatment plans.

  • Participates in Critical Incident Review, Deconstruction, and other Post Crisis Response meetings.

  • Attends supervision meetings with the Assistant Director of Group Living and/or Principal.

  • Informs Day Treatment Management team in matters of Curriculum and IEP Coordination and/or Supervisor of Social Work regarding the occurrence of serious incidents.

  • Recruits, hires and provides for training of support staff, in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources.

  • Obtains certification as “Crisis Intervention Trainer”. Updates intervention skills by attending seminars and in-service presentations.

  • Selects and arranges for support staff to become TCI Trainers, in collaboration with the Director of Training and Staff Development.

  • Implements and conducts TCI training for all staff, in collaboration with the Director of Training and Professional Development.

  • Reports to the appropriate supervisor regarding staff issues requiring supervisory intervention.

  • Monitors appropriateness of staff’s crisis intervention techniques.

  • Participates in agency Day Treatment Staff Meetings.

  • Completes appropriate paper work as directed by program procedure including incident reports and intervention logs. Charts data logs on a monthly basis and submits data for review.

  • Additional position-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor/ director.

Position Specifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field with significant relevant experience, OR an Associates Degree with five years’ experience in a crisis management position, OR an Associates Degree with significant relevant experience.

  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.

  • Experience working with children who exhibit significant emotional, behavioral, and interpersonal challenges, mental health diagnoses, and trauma history within a day treatment setting is preferred.

  • Experience interacting with and managing groups of children.

  • Experience and skill in conducting staff seminars.

  • Must have the ability to pass required pre-employment background checks, to include fingerprinting.

  • Ability to conduct therapeutic interventions within the guidelines of the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Model.

  • Ability to perform well under crisis conditions.

  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of people, including those who are culturally and socio-economically diverse, as well as people with various developmental and functional levels.

  • Ability to understand, communicate, represent and carry out the mission, values, philosophy and policies of St. Catherine’s Center for Children.

  • Ability to conduct themselves in a manner that is becoming of an employee of St. Catherine’s Center for Children.

  • Ability to work effectively in a shared decision making model as a team member.

  • Ability to carry out written documentation as required by St. Catherine’s policies and procedures and as required by regulating agencies.

  • Ability to organize and effectively manage (in a timely manner) the varied tasks of the position.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other personnel/ service providers or professionals.

  • A commitment to empowering students to develop problem-solving skills.

  • A conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change.

  • The ability to establish a respectful relationship with students to help them gain skills and confidence.

  • The capacity to maintain a helping role and to intervene appropriately to meet service goals.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • The ability to set appropriate limits.

  • Supervisor will have full and complete access to client Protected Health Information (PHI) in order to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position.
