Intern, Mechanical Engineer

SureScan Corporation is seeking a driven individual majoring in Mechanical Engineering to join our team as an Intern for the Summer of 2024. The position will be based in Binghamton, NY.

SureScan Corporation is a growing high-technology company that provides Aerospace Security Solutions globally. SureScan manufactures, sells, and services the SureScan x1000 explosive detection system and other related products.

The Intern will work with our Engineering and Quality Teams to create 3D models, generate 2D dimensioned manufacturing prints from 3D models, process engineering change requests by updating 2D and 3D models, and process redline changes. Design work may include machined parts, weldments, and sheet metal assemblies. This position involves all aspects of the engineering life cycle of large precision products that support worldwide security. During the internship, the candidate will support existing product development and participate in exciting projects under the direction of seasoned mentors across multiple teams and disciplines.

The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundational knowledge of Mechanical Engineering principles, take initiative in a fast-paced environment, and have interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Update and prepare 3D models and 2D prints using Inventor CAD and Vault design control systems
• Perform basic FEA using Autodesk software tools
• Assist in product assembly and testing of new designs and enhancements

Education & Experience:

• Enrolled in bachelors or higher engineering degree program
• Rising Junior or Senior majoring in Mechanical Engineering with CAD experience

Minimum Qualifications:

• The security requirements of this position requires that the candidate be a United States Citizen
• Experience with any CAD system
• Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
• Must be able to work at least 20 hours per week. The ideal candidate will be available to work longer hours during Summer.
• Must provide own mode of transportation and housing.
• Enthusiasm for learning and a proactive attitude towards tackling new challenges.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with Autodesk Inventor
• Aptitude for mechanical design and improvement.

Work Environment and Physical Demand

• Must be able to work in front of a computer for several hours.
• Must work on site, will interact with engineers and attend relevant meetings
• Work in a manufacturing environment. Ambient noise from equipment and servers will be present.
• Comfortable working in an environment where x-ray equipment is manufactured and tested. Equipment produces x-ray radiation, which is monitored and controlled to meet strict safety regulations.
