Civil Designer/Drafter

We are seeking dynamic individuals to join our Engineering Design group in our Lynchburg office. This role as a civil designer draws and renders plans using Civil3D software, and develops and modifies detailed drawings for engineering projects such as site plans, utility planning and mapping, roads, trails, walkways, bridges, stormwater conveyance measures, sidewalks, and railways.   The civil designer is responsible for the following details of our work:  

• Working closely with engineers and project managers to obtain project information and ensure design/drawing accuracy and completion. 
• Developing and/or modifying drawings/designs for municipal, environmental and land development projects as necessary. 
• Proactively coordinating with the Project Manager or Director to ensure continuity of workflow and maximize profitability.
• Following town and county standards in each design/drawing. 
• Calculating distances, dimensions and quantities using our specified design software.

• A strong proficiency in both oral and written communication. 
• The ability to work well either alone or as part of a dynamic team. 
• Comfort in interacting with/dealing with people at all levels of our organization: from the C-suite to the field crews.   

You also need at least a two-year degree from an accredited academic institution, preferably in a discipline related to civil engineering or computer-aided design.  We will, however, consider professional experience as well. You need to be motivated and willing to work the hours it takes to get the work accomplished, and you need to be able to intuit problems before they arise.
