Salary:

EIS is currently seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Designer to work at a client site in Iowa for a temporary job.  The Civil/Structural Designer will be responsible for the layout and drafting of civil/structural plans and details.  The job will run from April 22, 2024 through July 31, 2024. Travel reimbursement and per diem are provided.

About the Position

  • Able to field sketch steel structures for drafting to be used to generate fabrication drawings.
  • Prepares design layouts in compliance with engineering design and applicable code requirements.
  • Interface with the client and construction group as required in order to effectively and efficiently develop Civil/Structural design documents.

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD 2D.
  • Advanced Steel and Civil 3D a plus.
  • Ability to obtain data from project documents related to design requirements.
  • Knowledge of engineering design and layout of foundations, structural steel, concrete and masonry structures.
  • Familiarity of drafting concepts, practices, and procedures within civil/structural field.
  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to plan ahead and conceptualize; capable of recognizing discrepancies with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines and have strong communication and interpersonal skills.

 

Education and Experience

  • Vocational or 2-year associate degree in Drafting, or equivalent level of experience.
  • Must have 3+ years of related work experience in civil/structural design for chemical, refinery or with a consulting firm representing similar industries.
  • Being in good standing with DISA and having a valid TWIC is required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Outside work often requires moderate physical exertion including climbing scaffolding, kneeling, bending, taking field measurements and walking projects.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).  This includes hardhat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, still toed shoes, or other equipment as required.  
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at time.
