Preschool Teacher

MISSION:

The mission of the YMCA of the Foothills is to organize, develop, finance, and conduct programs for an association of persons of all ages that will, by putting Christian principles into practice, enrich the quality of their lives spiritually, mentally, physically and socially.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Preschool Teacher is responsible for the management and supervision of children between the ages of 2 & 3.   The incumbent must possess the physical ability to lead and interact in activities and games with children, monitor behavior requiring separation and participate in curriculum activities and housekeeping responsibilities.  Provides excellent customer service to students' parents and communicates with them on a routine and daily basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assist in planning and preparation of the creative learning environment and preparation of needed materials and supplies using a variety of resources. 
• Assist with general housekeeping tasks. 
• Supervise and lead the activity areas (all weather conditions) and actively engages in activities with children. 
• Provide leadership and direction in a school setting while adhering to the Y's Policy and Procedures at all times. 
• Maintain accurate attendance records and reporting.
• Encourage the children to participate in all activities.  
• Demonstrates an understanding of the developmental needs of pre-school age children and provides personal attention to all children.
• Performs student and parent evaluations.
• Provide support and is available as a resource to other staff members in need of assistance (i.e. lesson plans, staff in-services, duty schedules, etc...).

• Attendance at all staff meetings and trainings.
• Maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications. 
• Ensure the safety, health and welfare of all children by good hygiene methods, closely monitoring children and environment, preventing any accidents/injuries and taking immediate action to get aid if necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Must have clearance through fingerprinting, drug testing, criminal records and child abuse index background investigation.
• Must be HS graduate or possess GED, 12 units in Early Childhood Development courses plus minimum 2 years teaching experience.
• Must have physician's clearance and current TB test.
• Must obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within 90 days of hire.
• Experience working with children in an organized setting. 
• Must have visual and auditory abilities to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act immediately in emergency situations.
