PERIOPERATIVE (OR) RN - Cape Coral, Florida


Duties

Proficient in management of the OR suite, including but not limited to:
1. Preoperative, Intraoperative, and Postoperative Assessment
a. Reviews the results of diagnostic studies relevant to the patient's current status and planned procedure. Documents assessments using
a standardized format. Collects patient health data relevant to the operative or invasive procedure.
b. Formulates nursing diagnoses that are consistent with the assessment data and verified by interview with the patient, support person and or
other health care providers.
c. Develops culturally and age-specific expected outcomes using ethical principles to determine those outcomes.
d. Communicates expected and attained outcomes to health care providers to provide direction for continuity of care.
2. Management of reusable medical devices (RMD), ensuring appropriate instruments, consumables, and devices are readily available for the
procedure, including potential items designated as "hold" or prn items.
3. Completion of required surgical count including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative counts of instruments, soft goods, sharps, and other items that can be inadvertently retained in the surgical wound.
4. Proficient in the operation of laparoscopic, endoscopic, video, and laser surgical equipment.
5. Management of specimens, biologic implants, and non-biologic implants, including documentation.
6. Monitors/maintains the sterility of the surgical field and ensures all instrumentation is used in a safe and effective manner.
7. RN supervises the appropriate performance and completion of delegated nursing tasks with both direct and indirect care.
8. Participates and collaborates with surgeon and anesthesia for protection and positioning of the patient for surgery while mitigating the potential for a
positioning injury. Proper positioning takes in to account maximum surgical visualization for the procedure, length of the procedure and anatomy of the
patient.
9. OR RN will supervise paraprofessional staff and monitor activities of vendors or other personnel who may be present in the operating room.
10. Perioperative RN will ensure comprehensive documentation of care and intraoperative events occurring during the perioperative episode of care.
