MedStar Health is looking for a Manager of Acute Care Occupational Therapy  to join our team! We are looking for a licensed Occupational Therapist with sound clinical reasoning during patient care, effective time management abilities, and excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively train and manage personnel. 

As a Manager of Acute Care Occupational Therapy, you will provide occupational therapy services to patients, to include but not limited to screening and evaluation, treatment planning, treatment implementation, treatment reassessment and revision, patient/client re-evaluation, discharge planning, and documentation. Responsible for the overall operations and management of the Occupational Therapy Department/Clinic. Provides leadership to the team and directs support and supervision to the clinical supervisors/coordinators. Leads program development for specified service lines and assists the director with business designs aligning with specific organizational needs.

Primary Duties: 

  • Provides evaluation and treatment services including review of pertinent historical information, performance of specific assessments, and determination of recommendations and documentation of results. Explains evaluation findings and treatment plan to patient and family and incorporates patient and family in the goals setting. Demonstrates proficiency in implementation of treatment protocols. Consults with other healthcare professionals. Documents change in patients conditions. Demonstrates autonomy in clinical practice and clinical reasoning is guided by analytical processes and evidence-based practice. Pursues and directs continuing education for self and organization. Actively supports the department strategic plan and provides clinical development support to meet department needs. 

  • Promotes excellent customer experience and great access. Committed to providing frictionless access to care through flexibility, adaptability, creativity, and actions/behaviors that display empathy in our patient consumer driven environment. Identifies and assists team in removal of barriers to access. Oversees and is responsible for the overall operations of the occupational therapy department/clinic. Ensures appropriate staffing levels to meet the organization's needs and works with director to advocate for staffing needs based on the growth and changes in specific service lines. Maintains associate records and assists director in management and maintenance of department competencies and policies. Provides direct supervision and mentorship to clinical supervisors/coordinators to promote continued leadership growth within the department. 

  • Coordinates selection, coaching, orientation, and mentoring of department staff. Develops standards of performance and conducts performance management. Leads department, service-line, and discipline specific decision making and problem solving as it impacts patient care. Initiates and implements ideas for process improvement, task force development, development of special projects, or evidence-based practice that assists with streamlining operations, reducing cost, and improving quality. Assess data to ensure quality outcomes and adjust as needed. Leads the development and review of clinical policies that meet identified standards of care.  

  • Catalyzes communication and collaboration with physicians, and other program/service stakeholders, across the care continuum. Actively participates or leads teams/committees to promote the goals of the service line. Coordinates community and MedStar outreach and formal marketing initiatives to expand potential patient and referrer awareness of programs and services. Drives the initiative in developing and managing referrals. 

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy. 

  • 5-7 years clinical experience in a rehabilitation or acute care setting. 

  • 2 years of experience in teaching occupational therapy treatment principles and application to occupational therapy students and/or staff. 

  • Occupational Therapist licensure in Maryland, District of Columbia (DC), and/or Virginia as deemed necessary for the specific location. 

  • Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 90 days. 

  • Two years of professional staff supervision experience preferred.
