Job Description

We are looking for an organized, adaptable and experienced Dental Billing Specialist for our five practices in Brooklyn + Queens. While this is a remote position, the candidate must be based in New York and willing to travel to Canarsie, if necessary.

The Dental Billing Specialist is responsible for achieving the revenue targets of the practice. This person must have prior dental billing experience and be familiar with Government and Commercial Insurance plans.

Qualifications

Knowledge

  • Experience in Dental Office setting of at least 5 years
  • Proficiency in Dentrix Ascend, Google Workspace, Slack, Asana
  • Excellent knowledge of Dental Insurances, specifically PPO, DMO, DHMO (Capitation), and NYS Managed Care Programs
  • Understanding In-network /Out-of-network benefits as well as fee for service
  • Possess working knowledge of General Dentistry and Orthodontics such as common procedures and treatment
  • Up to date knowledge of ADA billing guidelines including CDT coding updates and frequency limitations

Communication / Problem Solving

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively relate data to coworkers
  • Excellent critical thinking skills to help solve business problems and make decisions
  • Tendency to pay close attention to small details that could impact results
  • General knowledge of business operations, objectives, strategies, process and information flow
  • Outstanding organizational skills

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Billing

  • Create industry-leading revenue cycle collections process that ensures stakeholder satisfaction, organizational efficiency, and excellent financial performance
  • Develops and ensures that billing/collection policies and procedures are implemented
  • Oversee governmental and third-party regulatory compliance and credentialing based on industry best practices
  • Optimize insurance payer strategy, pricing and contract terms
  • Oversee claim submission and aging process
  • Achieves business goals, manages projects, and meets revenue patient targets
  • Pre-schedule audit and uncovering opportunities in the schedule
  • Post-appointment audit and unscheduled treatment recovery
  • Answers calls and questions from insurance companies
  • Responsible for corrected insurance claims & refunds due to insurance companies

Training / Onboarding

  • Provide orientation, training, and evaluation feedback to registration and billing department staff
  • Conduct weekly staff meetings / trainings to review progress on compliance measures, review any new policies and procedures, and to address other issues as appropriate for both field and HQ
  • Directly advise the billing team and provide oversight, leadership and guidance for billing staff
  • Audit correct codes/procedures are being posted to patient ledger
General Skills:

Proficiency in data entry

A background in data entry and analysis and experience using Excel and Google Sheets as well as other such programs is an asset. This person may not be involved in the data entry themselves, but they will need to be able to understand it so they can make decisions.

Interpersonal skills

While understanding numbers and statistics play a large part in the role of the Dental Billing Coordinator, this person should display strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to handle conflict, teamwork, empathy, listening skills and a positive attitude.

Multitasking

The role of Dental Billing Team Leader is a tough one to succinctly define in one sentence, because it can have such a varied set of responsibilities. That is why a person appointed to this role is usually an expert at juggling many different tasks at one time. To be effective, this person must not only be good at multitasking, but changing gears from one task to another at the drop of a hat.

Project Management

The Dental Billing Team Leader is expected to be proficient in the software and tools used by the organization to collaborate on projects. These softwares include Google Workspace, Slack and Asana.
