Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

This position will be primarily responsible for managing the operation of an assigned territory that involves installing, repairing, testing and maintaining highway-rail grade crossing systems. This position is employed by an affiliated company of Patriot Rail.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform required safety inspections and tests of signal system components in accordance with state and FRA regulations, including but not limited to FRA monthly signal inspections, cable megging tests, and relay sliding tests.
  • Perform preventive maintenance of signal system components in accordance with state and FRA regulations
  • Respond to reports of signal system problems and troubleshoot, diagnose and correct malfunctions
  • Perform the installation, modification, and repair of railroad signaling equipment and highway traffic control devices according to FRA regulations and layout/design plans.
  • Documents all tests, inspections, and repairs performed and insures compliance with all company, state and federal regulations.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in the railroad industry with training or certification in highway/railroad grade crossing systems
  • Demonstrated history and experience in safety compliance
  • Ability to understand train scheduling and Railroad Operating rules
  • Demonstrates a proven track record in electrical troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Strong ability to perform well under pressure and in stressful situations and circumstances
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associates Degree or other post-high school electronics vocational training preferred
  • Valid Driver's License

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries.
  • Wear protective equipment including hearing protection, safety steel-toe boots, or safety glasses.
  • Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, including on-call 7 days a week, 24 hours per day, with occasional periods of time away from home and short rest between assignments in accordance with the hours of service regulation.
  • Work safely and confidently around vehicular traffic on public roads.
  • Medium to heavy work, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 80 pounds.
  • Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/crawl/balance/climb. Climbing ladders and platforms up to heights of 25' is a regular part of required duties.
  • Work in cramped, confined, enclosed, or awkward places.
  • Walk long distances over uneven terrain.
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
