- Reception and veterinary/animal experience preferred but not necessary.
- Full-time or Part-time
- Departmental hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 am - 7 pm. Shifts vary.

Job Summary:
The Veterinary Surgery Receptionist is an integral part of the robust Surgical Department at Providence Animal Center. We’re looking for someone who is eager to provide quality customer service, passionate about helping pets and their owners, and is excited to be part of a fast-faced and growing team. As a Veterinary Surgery Receptionist, you serve as the crucial role in supporting the Surgery Department on a day-to-day basis.
All job duties are supportive of the Providence Animal Center’s mission in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures, and with the safety of people and animals at the forefront of all activities. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
Accountability:
This position reports directly to the Lead Surgery Technician and/or Director of Surgery. This position is a non-exempt position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Essential responsibilities include making appointments, return messages in a timely manner, checking in animals for surgery, refilling medications, data entry, etc.
• Assistance with scheduling and facilitating recheck appointments
• Basic medical records and surgical paperwork keeping
• Client education on importance of spay/neuter surgery, counseling for common post-operative complications, and discussion of some potential complications of commonly-performed surgeries
• Maintain a cheerful attitude and positive customer service experience with all clients
Expectations:
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work independently and as a team
• Show empathy and emotions when a client calls with an ill/injured pet
• Good communication skills
• Knowledge of pricing of procedures and medications
• Maintain and navigate medical records
• Veterinary/animal experience preferred or willingness to learn
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills; professional telephone etiquette.
• Ability to learn and effectively communicate behavioral and medical information about the animals.
• Knowledge of computers and relevant software applications including MS Office and Google Docs. Capable of learning our adoptions software. Ability to type proficiently.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, co-workers, and management.
• Learn dog/cat breed characteristics, companion animal behavior, and general veterinary practices and be able to convey that information accurately to the public.
• Ability to handle customer needs, including complaints, with confidence.
• Ability to remain calm and show compassion in difficult situations.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift and carry 20lbs without assistance.
• Ability to work closely with animal hair/dander.
• Subject to loud or frequent noise.
Providence Animal Center is located in Media, PA.
