JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State's Office of Physical Plant is looking for our next Facilities Designer (Mechanical). The purpose of this position is to provide professional mechanical/HVAC and plumbing engineering design services in support of Penn State facilities projects. Services to be provided include all mechanical engineering efforts from conceptual and feasibility stages through construction drawing stage and into construction administration.

The successful candidate will collaborate and coordinate with architects, engineers, and designers in various disciplines to achieve the desired results. This position manages single discipline projects of small or moderate size and scope and is responsible for assuring quality, cost effectiveness, and timeliness of assigned projects. The position also plans and performs tasks of a larger scope and leads specific tasks within the project scope. The position provides input and consultation to in-house mechanical designers. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Mechanical Engineering discipline group leader in Design Services.

Education and experience:

This position will be filled at the Intermediate or Advanced Level depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires an associate's Degree or higher in Design Technology or Construction Technology or related discipline and three years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience for Intermediate level; additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher-level jobs. A Professional Engineer's (PE) license is not required.

Strong communication and self-management skills are required. An attitude of teamwork, respect, responsiveness, customer service and mission focus is also required. This position requires the person to be physically able to visit, access, and observe all areas of a typical building construction site, with or without reasonable accommodation. Expertise with AutoCAD and typical Microsoft office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) products is required. Revit competency is preferred.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$46,400.00 - $74,000.00
