STRUCTURAL DESIGN COORDINATOR BLOX, LLC – Birmingham, AL Overview: BLOX exists to make better buildings faster. We are part of a larger framework - Design Manufacture Construct – that guides building design so that construction can leverage manufacturing productivity. We’re made up of smart architects, engineers, manufacturers, programmers, and other generalists that are united by the notion that to make great things intelligently is a worthy pursuit. We are seeking a talented and energetic Structural Engineer to lead our structural design group. Job description: The Structural Design Coordinator is responsible for the design for fabrication of buildings on site for several standardized building programs. They will work with a team that includes design detailers, manufacturing line leaders and field erectors to define and continually improve the way that BLOX builds, and is responsible for the development of the building design from beginning to end with input from the building coordination lead, consultant engineers, program design leadership, architects, steel fabricators and steel erection teams. Responsibilities/ Duties: • Develop and contribute to the continuous improvement of BLOX structural systems at the platform level. • Defines best in class process for design and management of structural systems through the continuity of the project, from design to manufacturing, to site assembly. • Leads the team of design detailers, manufacturing line leaders and field installers/ erectors to achieve best in class process and product • Develops preliminary design concepts with larger design team • Develops and coordinates building structural systems in a building information model (BIM) • Collaborates and coordinates with project managers, architects, civil, and mechanical engineers • Optimizes the structural system to simplify manufacture and assembly and to reduce construction waste • Generates steel BOM for delivery to supply chain. • Directs internal technical drafting staff to produce detailed manufacturing drawings for factory and field assembly of structural systems • Coordinates construction/manufacturing document content with all disciplines to assure complete and accurate agreement • Analyzes shop drawings for design compliance and submittal documents. • Produce quantity takeoffs for cost estimates from BIM. Requirements: • Design savvy Structural engineer with a minimum of 5 years of experience • Desire to take part in changing the construction industry • Strong leader, good communicator, team player, self-motivated and intellectually curious • Detail oriented with a strong understanding of steel structural systems, light gauge is a plus • Process oriented with an understanding of Lean production concepts • Revit Savvy: job will require strong Revit skills • Effectively work in a fast-paced team environment • Manage and prioritize multiple assignments at once • Experience making detail drawings • Experience with steel fabrication a plus BLOX offers the full spectrum of comprehensive benefits including: health, dental, and vision insurance.
