SEASONAL BUS DRIVER

LOCATION: Monette, Cassville, Ozark Mountain

REPORTS TO: Leah Treadwell

FLSA STATUS: Part-time /Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Seasonal Bus Driver provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Be knowledgeable and adhere to Safety Policies, Procedures and Emergency Response Plans. Always keeping Safety at the forefront of your mind.
  2. Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
  3. Drives bus safely according to state and local law, as well as YMCA policies and procedures.
  4. Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  5. Creates a safe environment in which others feel welcome and respected.
  6. Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
  7. Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and records all information, such as gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms.
  8. Cleans out bus each day.
  9. Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be 21 years of age or older.
  2. At least one year’s work experience as a bus driver preferred.
  3. Possess an appropriate class license.
  4. Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles (bus).
  5. Experience leading or providing care for children is preferred.
  6. Track record of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents.
  7. Mature, responsible, easy-going individuals with good communication skills.
  8. Must be able to interact with kids and adults in a positive manner, enthusiastic, flexible.
  9. Must be able to align with and demonstrate the YMCA four core values on a consistent basis.
  10. CPR Pro & First Aid Certification required within the first 30 days (training can be provided).

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Must have a valid CDL, proof of current physical.
  2. Must pass a preemployment drug screening.
  3. Ability to safely drive a bus for long periods of time.
  4. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position for long periods of time, including walking, standing, bending, squatting, and kneeling.
  5. Ability to respond to emergency situations.
  6. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  7. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  8. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high
