THE POSITION

Do you have experience working around horses? Would you like to take your experience to the next level in the exciting world of horse racing? The Department of Agriculture is seeking candidates for Livestock Worker positions to assist Veterinarians to handle horses, record data, and monitor Lasix medication at Presque Isle Downs Racetrack. Livestock Workers perform crucial work in ensuring that the rules, regulations, and policies of the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission are followed. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As part of this role, your primary responsibility will involve ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data by adhering to chain of custody procedures. Additionally, you will be responsible for verifying the identity of racehorses through tattoo identification, collecting urine samples, and handling and verifying sample kits. In order to maintain a clean and organized work environment, you will also be required to clean work and barn areas. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to assist with various farm activities as needed, contributing to the overall smooth operation of the farm.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Temporary, Part-Time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Wednesday.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Experience in general farm work; and such training as may have been gained through completion of the eighth school grade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Post Employment Requirement:

  • This position will require possession of a Commission Employee License once hired.


Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
