JOB SUMMARY

Designs, develops and implements process improvements, work methods, efficient layouts, transportation solutions and material handling engineering projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Major Areas of Responsibility

Reviews current practices of the Distribution Centers and stores to reduce company expenditures on damaged merchandise.Works with Merchandising on appropriate packaging guidelines for the vendors.Tracks merchandise from vendor to store to identify opportunities for improvements.Develops guidelines and trains the Distribution Centers/stores on correct merchandise handling such as packing trucks and processing goods.

Designs material handling/storage systems that maximize productivity and space utilization.Travels to the Distribution Centers to oversee projects. Evaluates projected construction costs, Distribution Center space needs, systems expansion and subsequent equipment needs.Recommends vendors, based on quality of product/proposal and costs.Provides guidance to vendors during detailed design process.Provides cost analysis studies, monitors and controls costs of equipment purchased for projects, negotiates costs of all equipment purchases.

Addresses operational concerns within the Distribution Centers to improve existing systems and procedures to increase productivity and capacity of existing systems and to troubleshoot problems.

Develops, analyzes, reviews, recommends and implements business and engineering solutions to improve work method efficiencies in the stores (i.e. backroom layouts, material handling needs, work methods and motion economy, support area layout, etc.).

Provides extensive knowledge and advice to Maintenance departments within the Distribution Centers.Answers questions regarding equipment problems, etc. Contacts vendors in order to replace/repair equipment in an expedient manner.

JOB KNOWLEDGE

Minimum formal education, if any, required to perform this job

Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience

Ability to travel

Minimum experience required to perform this job.

3 - 5 years industrial engineering or related experience.Distribution Center/retail experience preferred
