Grain Freight and Logistics Manager

Job DescriptionThe Grain Freight and Logistics Manager will be responsible for handling the transportation of all animal feed shipments for the Global Commodities Dept. Learn more at www.joinwholefoods.com/merchandising DUTIES - * Coordinate various modes of transportation (including hopper trucks, railcars, ocean freight etc.) with the Customer Service Team to transport feed. * Ensure all procedures related to transportation are followed, including documentation required for compliance / identity preservation. * Work with purchasing to set up transportation with suppliers and customers for compliance with identity preserved Non-GMO and Organic programs. * Ensure compliance with the WFM Standard Operations Procedures regarding transport. * Track all imports from foreign port to final destination, including the handling of any holds and demurrage. * Schedule pick-ups and deliveries with the Customer Service Team. * Work with both freight brokers and carriers directly to ensure appointments and schedules are met. * Freight rate matrix maintenance including carrier performance tracking. * Participate in Whole Foods Transportation Service Agreements including the onboarding of new freight carriers. * Negotiate rates for lane shipments and provide quotes. * Work with team members to ensure that delivered shipments have been properly billed. * Perform truck forecasting tasks, particularly for holiday seasons. * Provide data on service levels of all transportation vendors. * Manage insurance requirements and file freight claims as needed. * Ensure adherence with the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). * Communicate, represent, and uphold Whole Foods Market's core values and business philosophy to Team Members, Suppliers, and Customers. REQUIREMENTS – * 5-7 years of experience working with various modes of transportation including bulk hopper trucks, railcars, and ocean related freight. * Be a demonstrated concise and effective communicator. * Must have a high school diploma, college degree preferred. * Strong negotiation skills, the ability to multitask and organize simultaneous shipments. * Must have experience with trans-loading, customs, FDA/APHIS holds. * Strong Excel skills and some freight software knowledge. * Non-GMO and Organic knowledge is required, some feed industry experience is desired. * Must have acute attention to detail and strong problem solving skills. * Occasional travel may be required. * This position will be located in Austin, TX – must be willing to relocate.
