Position Purpose:
To assist the Veterinarian with patients in the administration of vaccines, selling flea/tick and parasite control and to provide counsel and customer service to clinic patrons. Perform all duties to maintain administrative paperwork generated in the veterinary clinic. This job is composed of a variety of different tasks that may be covered by operational guidelines. While individual judgment may occasionally be required in order to complete assigned tasks, some questions are directed to the Store Manager, Veterinarian or Vet Services Coordinator.

  • Properly handle patients, appropriately administer vaccines, medications and other treatments and assist the Veterinarian with examinations
  • Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with all professional contacts emphasizing company interests
  • Execute  organizational capabilities which encompass: maintaining accurate medical records and administrative paperwork; controlling inventory, including maintaining adequate stock levels, stock rotation and order processing
  • Interest in animal welfare
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Supervisory Responsibility:
May provide functional guidance to associates working in the Wellness Clinic to ensure familiarity with clinic set-up and operation.  May be required to work with another technician to provide on the job training for this position.
 
Work Environment:
The majority of job duties are conducted indoors.  Because this position requires bending, kneeling, lifting and moving patients or merchandise (up to 50 pounds, as necessary) and standing for long time periods, there may be risk of injury resulting from improper procedures.

Education/Experience:
A high school diploma or its equivalent (GED) is required, in addition to satisfactory completion of one semester of the ROP Veterinary Assistant course. One year of related clinical experience in a veterinary hospital or clinic setting can be substituted for the ROP requirements. Applicants that are Certified Assistants and/or Registered Veterinary Technicians are preferred.
