GPI/CARQUEST corporate office, located in Raleigh, NC, is seeking an Accountant II who will report to the Supervisor of Accounting.

Under direct supervision this position applies accounting principles and practices to a variety of accounting, budgeting, and/or other fiscal functions. Assists in the day-to-day maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and in preparing various financial reports. Reconciles accounts, posts information and balances general or subsidiary ledgers, and compiles segments of monthly closings and annual reports. Contacts other departments and/or outside agencies to resolve problems. Assists in special projects as needed.

Essential Functions:
-Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger and subsidiary accounts.
-Approves and posts journal entries (up to $25K).
-Performs moderately complex account analysis and reconciliation, including inventory reconciliations as well as outside vendor inventory schedules as needed.
-Develops and prepares standard reports and statements.
-Examines documents to verify conformance to pertinent policies, procedures, and accounting standards.
-Identifies and resolves accounting discrepancies.
-Monitors and reviews accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness.
-Ensures financial records are documented and maintained in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
-Conducts special accounting studies.

Required Skills
Education Level:
-Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent experience

Work Experience/Skills & Abilities Required:
-2 to 4 years experience
-Previous experience within an accounting department within a private or publicly held corporation.
-General knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
-Organizational and problem solving skills.
-Attention to detail with high degree of accuracy.
-General knowledge of financial and accounting software applications.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with a variety of contacts including external customers.
-Ability to handle confidential information accordingly.
-Proficient with Microsoft suite of applications including; Word, Excel (Advanced), Access, and PowerPoint.
-Ability to take direction and work independently.
