Overview:

Under general supervision, perform day in day out database administration tasks for one or more of the following database management systems: Oracle, DB2-ZOS, DB2-LUW, SQL*Server, Teradata, NOSQL. Roles and responsibilities include installation and administration of the database stack, providing technical guidance and play a lead role in implementation of stable and performing databases for IFS customers. Responsibilities also include training and leading the team and projects from a technical aspect, help in interviewing and technical evaluation of new candidates that may join the team. Focus is around a lead technical role that encompasses all aspects of database administration including backup and recovery, high availability, DR and clustered solutions.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Install database server and software, patch and upgrade binaries. Create databases on UNIX, Windows and other platforms. Monitor databases for performance and stability. Design and Develop processes for alerting and monitoring. Key responsibility also includes design and implementation of security and encryption/PCI compliance for sensitive data.
  • Design and develop back and restore strategy,policies and procedures. Tune database and application SQL from infrastructure perspective. Maintain audit and SOX compliance of databases supported by the team and documentation for the same.
  • Deliver assignments by established deadlines. Keep management well-informed on a timely basis of progress, status and/or concerns for each assignment.
  • Play lead technical role and guide DBA team in respect of technology (engineered systems and latest offerings), interfaces with other systems and infrastructure performance and stability in general.
  • Support On-Call; document processes and prepare/generate presentations/reports as required from management or customer
  • Decision making responsibilities for the position include day-to-day operational decisions, effective strategic decision-making to support business and customers. Decisions include design and implementation of a stable, secure, performing infrastructure for the application/customer; design High Availability, Backup/restore/DR, Clustered solutions that interact seamlessly with other homogenous and heterogeneous platforms using links, replication products and/or related technology. Responsibilities including providing technical guidance to management, team and customers in regards to implementation of highly advance technological solutions.

Skills Summary:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred and 5-7 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least5 to7 years of solid hands on experience on one or more of database management systems: Oracle, SQL*Server, Teradata, DB2-ZOS, DB2-LUW, NOSQL with experience in installation, administration and performance tuning of the database stack.
  • Candidate must have the experience to design, deliver and support a stable, secure, highly performing infrastructure for the application/customer; design High Availability, Backup/restore/DR, Clustered solutions that interact seamlessly with other homogenous and heterogeneous platforms using links, replication products and/or related technology.
  • Responsibilities including providing technical guidance to management, team and customers in regards to implementation of highly advance technological solutions.
  • Demonstrates the ability to independently prepare time and resource estimates for new projects, enhancements and maintenance. Good communication skills are required for this lead technical role.
  • Consistently demonstrates the ability to quickly assimilate and apply new concepts and technical skills.
  • Participates in meetings, committees and conferences related to technical issues. Demonstrates excellent problem solving skills; quickly researches and resolves production problems; anticipates and prevents problems.

  • Must have expert database monitoring and tuning skills and apply these skills to optimize the database.
  • The candidate must be able to train others in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Must be able to convey highly technical database concepts to DBAs as well and non-DBAs.
  • Candidate should be proficient in using Windows PCs. Proficiency should extend to Database management client stack and/or 3rd party tools to interact with database system. (For example, Embarcadero, db2mon, Optim Performance Manager, Oracle Grid Control, Viewpoint, ssh, CLP Plus, SQL Plus, BTeq, Data Studio etc).
  • Familiarity with web based tools as required to communicate with vendor for incidents and trouble shooting is also required.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Projects and Visio is a plus.

  • Exposure to Big Data technologies like Hadoop
  • Exposure to how Map-Reduce/Hive/Pig jobs can run on Cassandra
  • Experience with Unix/Linux including basic commands and shell scripting
