We are looking for candidates who are seeking to build their careers in the field of IT to work in a fast-pace, technology-driven, customer-facing environment as UNIX System Engineers.
The UNIX System Engineer will be reporting to a CSE (Customer System Engineer) manager. He/she will be providing daily technical supports for a wide range of customers on the UNIX platforms - Linux and Solaris.
The UNIX System Engineer will work to identify the root causes of customer issues and will strive to incorporate correct solutions with minimal rework. He/she is expected to provide leadership, technical expertise, and effective communication with the Customer Relation and other Operation Support teams.
Responsibilities
The UNIX Engineer will be working with a team to maintaining UNIX based environment with SAN storage. Some key responsibilities include:
-Maintain and support Oracle T5 SuperCluster and platform technologies for customer-driven activities
- Support Solaris OS environments running in a virtualized deployment using Oracle ' s Virtualization technologies (OVM ' s)
- Assist with administering Solaris OS Cluster, Oracle Exadata Storage, Exalogic Elastic Cloud and Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center
- Provision Domains, Zones (ROOT Complex) as well as OS configuration and administration
- Continuously work to improve MTTR through documentation, resource improvements and teamwork
-Perform change request events around NaviSite ' s Data Center procedures (and possibly during off-hours and weekends)
-Work with other Operational Support teams to improve processes
-Work with vendors to address hardware and/or operating system issues
-Required to participate in an engineer on-call rotation
Qualifications
*** Due to SIAS requirements, candidate must be a U.S. Citizen ***
-Bachelor degree in Computer Science or equivalent
. 1- 3 years relevant experience
-Proficiency with the Linux operating system is a must
-Proficient with UNIX shell scripting
-Knowledge with DNS, NTP, FTP, LDAP, SMTP, Secured Shell (SSH) is highly desirable
-Knowledge with system monitoring, performance troubleshooting and OS tuning
-Knowledge with the basic operating model of UDP/TCP networking
-Familiarity with the Solaris operating system (preferably Solaris 10.x or 11.x), Solaris Zones (Containers), Sun Clustering is highly valued
-Familiarity with Apache, WebSphere or similar web portals is highly desirable
-Familiarity with some monitoring tools such as Nagios or SNMP traps
-Familiarity of some type of backup software (ex. Veritas NetBackup, or HP Data Protector)
-Familiarity with SAN technology
-Experience with the Remedy ticketing system is a plus
-A thorough understanding system virtualization concept
Ability and Eagerness to learn and grow in a complex technical environment
-Strong oral and written communication skills
