We are currently looking to hire an experienced IT Program Director in the EPMO to work in the Minnetonka, MN or Hartford, CT office. As a member of the Enterprise Project Management Office team, this Program Director will be engaged in leading a broad range of Information System projects within the Healthcare domain. Projects will encompass a broad range of financial, payment and corporate services systems with enterprise programs that may run across multiple business lines and the full array of UHG systems. Budget accountability may span $15M - 25M (or greater) per year with Programs that deliver over 1-5 years.


 


The IT Program Director will be responsible for:




  • Execution and delivery of assigned programs and projects within scope, budgetary, schedule, benefit, and quality commitments.


  • Coordinating with other teams and application areas as necessary to resolve schedule, issues, risks and other interdependency challenges.


  • Providing high level subject matter expertise in areas including program management, project management, project scope definition, risk identification, project methodology, resource allocation, facilitation, and other project management areas.


  • Driving risk and issue resolution, and appropriate escalations.


  • Understanding the 'bigger picture' of the program and business impacts to initiatives.

 


The Program Director will be highly involved in the definition, management, and implementation of significant technology focused projects working directly with United functional business clients including:


 




  • Aligning technology solutions with business strategies through the delivery of a large portfolio of projects.


  • Proactively identify opportunities, conduct analyses, needs assessments, cost/benefit assessments and broker other IS services.


  • Providing industry thought leadership and developing solutions that transform the industry


  • Leading large, complex programs/projects to achieve key business objectives


  • Directing a team of 5 -10 PM's and mentoring their development


  • Predicting emerging customer needs and develops innovative solutions to meet them


  • Participates in the development of business strategy


  • Develops and manages business plans to achieve objectives


  • Solves unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business


  • Translates highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences


  • Influences senior leadership to adopt new ideas, products, and/or approaches.


  • Oversee large teams of matrixed IT PM resources along with business resources

Requirements


10+ years overall IT Project Management (and/or Program Management) experience in a large enterprise environment (Fortune 500 companies preferred)


10+ years technical experience in one or more aspects of Information Systems Development or Business / Information Systems areas


Candidates should have a minimum of 2+ years knowledge of the healthcare industry


5+ years of budget accountability, tracking and complex cost benefit analysis ($5M plus) 


5+ years management of large programs including managing other project/program managers


Professional PM methodology trained


Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) project management including critical path project schedule management using MS Project or a similar tool


Very strong understanding of distributed technologies & architecture


Solid understanding of mainframe technologies


Proven ability to build and manage relationships across a large enterprise


C-level interface and presentation skills


Ability to influence decisions from top down and bottom up


Solid analytical, problem-solving and financial analysis skills.


Proficiency in computer software such as Project, Power Point, and Excel


Bachelors required


Post-graduate degree in applicable area of expertise or equivalent experience desired


Position location available in Minnetonka, MN or Hartford, CT offices only


In-depth Healthcare industry knowledge is an important part of being successful in this role.
