The Manager, Pharmacy Operations will report to the National Director Clinical Pharmacy Ops/Prior Notification Services Director (PNS) and will assist with oversight of daily operations of the Houston location. The Manager will have 10 direct reports: Clinical Pharmacists, technical personnel and will be involved with routine decision making that involves staffing, workload assessment, scheduling and hiring/candidate selection.  Other specific responsibilities will include the following: 


 



  • Resolves problems and provides guidance to team members, identifying potential issues before they arise

  • Understands the Prior Authorization case creation and review process.

  • Consults with customers (physicians, pharmacies, and others) regarding status of prior authorization and/or issues related to such

  • Supports team priorities and direction, adapting departmental and organizational plans and priorities to operational execution

  • Identifies and addresses business and operational challenges

  • Assists with oversight of work activities of other supervisors

  • Provides input to forecasting and planning activities

  • Identifies system and process-related changes to improve prior authorization process

  • Applies knowledge/skills to complex activities, including those that may vary from day to day

  • Demonstrates a depth and breadth of knowledge/skills in own area and is often able to apply these outside of own function

  • Participates in the training of new and existing employees

  • Routine assessment of employees for adherence to defined metrics

  • Works closely with the Director to execute strategic initiatives, drive team direction, resolve operational issues and promote/influence positive work environment (support organizational culture)

Requirements


  • BS Pharmacy or Doctorate of Pharmacy degree required

  • Current, active, unrestricted Pharmacist license in Texas

  • 3+ years operational leadership and team/personnel management/staff development experience required

  • Pharmacy operations experience within retail, hospital or managed care pharmacy environment required

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint required

  • Demonstrated ability to focusing activities toward a strategic direction and develop tactical plans, drive performance and achieve targets

  • Strong problem resolution skills, systematic analysis of problems, draw relevant conclusions and devise appropriate courses of action required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to convey complex or technical information and interpret complex information from others

  • Experience working in Medicaid and/or Medicare health care and insurance industry highly preferred

  • Clinical experience strongly preferred

  • Prior Authorization experience highly preferred
