LAUNDRY AND DRY CLEANING PRESSER
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Work in this class involves the steam pressing of garments requiring a laundry or dry cleaning process. Employees are responsible for determining the correct steam pressing procedure and operating the pressing equipment. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed for conformity to pressing standards, adherence to production schedules, and for correctness of work procedures.
DUTIES PERFORMED
Inspects garments and decides appropriate pressing operation as required by the design and content of the particular garment.
Places garment on press; smoothens out wrinkles; and lowers and raises press head, or activates automatic press by depressing appropriate buttons; removes finished garment from press; puts garment on coat hanger or rack for inspection by supervisor.
Removes old press cover and adjusts new pad on press. Regularly cleans pressing equipment.
Dusts press and drain condensed water from pressing equipment.
Performs other related to cleaning and finishing duties as required.
Ability to perform minor cloths repair (remove and sew buttons on, fix hems etc.) is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of the various garments designs and the pressing requirements for each.
Working knowledge of the various materials and fabrics that require special pressing.
Ability to perform repetitive physical work for long periods of time and to meet acknowledged production and quality standards.
Ability to recognize and report malfunctioning of equipment. Ability to follow instructions.
Minimum Training and Experience Requirements
At least 1 year of experience in laundry and dry cleaning that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade.
Schedule : 9am-6pm Monday - Friday, or Tuesday – Saturday
Pay Range : $14-16 p/ hour, based on experience + group medical insurance
