Welders are responsible for ordinary manual welding operations in all positions including both confined spaces and high places.  Assists the Welding Department, Ride and Show Maintenance, including Animation and Special Effects.


Weldersat Universal Orlando are responsible for:

  • Fabrication of new parts or structures and repair of broken structures in the field or shop based on conceptual drawings or manufacturing prints to meet QC standards.  Types of welding include:  bench assemblies using clamps and/or fixtures to avoid distortion; fabrication and high pressure on a variety of assemblies and products.
  • Troubleshooting problem situations.  Working with engineers to improve operational reliability, safety and serviceability for rides, shows and facilities.
  • Providing work documentation in Maximo Labor Reporting, Log Book entries, completing work orders.
  • Performing other duties as assigned including general mechanical work in support of mechanics for annual process; basically disassembly, cleaning and reassembly of ride vehicles or components.
  • Understanding and actively participating in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.



To perform the role of a Welder successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Consistent attendance is a job requirement
  • High school degree or GED Required. 
  • Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school Preferred.
  • 5-7 Years:  Required welding experience and a company certification equal to a 4G within 90 days.; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License/ required to operate company vehicles.  
  • Must be able to obtain Company weld certificates in Stick, Mig and Tig on steel, stainless, aluminum, bi-metalic and other materials within 30 days of hire.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.   Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Must have a good understanding of weld processes, materials and setting up welding equipment.  Must be able to work from drawings, sketches, verbal and written instructions.  Have the ability to read and understand multi-view drawings, layouts and the knowledge of welding symbols.  Must be skilled in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG), Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG), and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).  Must be skilled in the use of oxygen/ acetylene equipment for cutting, welding, brazing, heating and air carbon arc gouging.  Must be able to set and regulate the gas to control the atmosphere, current, voltage and pressure in order to obtain the proper penetration and fusion of metals.  Have mechanical knowledge to clean and assemble items such as gear box, wheel assembles, etc.  Understand basic hardware such as bolt grades (grade 5, 8, etc.)  Be able to prep and install gaskets.  Understand torque wrench readings, inch/ft. pounds.  Have basic knowledge of hand tools.

  • Regularly (2/3 of the time or more) use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; lift 10 pounds.
  • Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) stand; sit; talk or hear; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; lift 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally (1/3 of the time or less) walk; taste or smell; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; ability to adjust focus.


The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of the Welder job.


While performing the duties of this job, the individual is required to:

  • Regularly (2/3 of the time or more) be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) be exposed to work in high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock; vibration.
  • Occasionally (1/3 of the time or less) be exposed to wet, humid conditions (non-weather); work near moving mechanical parts; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather); extreme heat (non-weather).
  • While performing this job, the noise level in the work environment is loud.
