Director, UnitedHealth Care IT Operations 


In this exciting and challenging role within the Office of the CIO organization, you will have responsibility and accountability for leading specific areas within UnitedHealth Care IT Operations, driving significant initiatives in partnership with business teams to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and quality. This role will help build and implement valuable operational models designed to drive future meaningful business value.


 


This position will ideally be located in our Minnetonka, MN offices.   We will also consider someone in our Hartford, CT offices or a telecommuter. 


 


Responsibilities:



  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with business partners for assigned domains

  • Develop and in-depth understanding of locations where systems and services are consumed and any unique attributes associated with same

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of systems topography and services consumed by the assigned domain

  • Understand Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and rationalize appropriateness with technology to ensure plans are valid

  • Act as the IT escalation point on IT issues relative to UnitedHealth Care systems

  • Define, monitor, report, and trend IT failures related to UnitedHealth Care business systems

  • Facilitate remediation efforts to improve stability actively engaging the appropriate support organizations

  • Perform routine system health checks to validate monitoring, PLM, support artifacts, HA, DR etc are in place and tested

  • Identify expectation / performance gaps with current systems capabilities e.g. HA, DR etc as understood by UnitedHealth Care leadership, drive remediation efforts as appropriate

  • Communicate systems health to Sr. business leadership and key IT constituents, complementing existing practices

  • Actively engage with internal and external IT providers to ensure services and products developed are delivered to meet or exceed business expectations

  • Provide subject matter expertise covering processes, technology, organization and support teams to UnitedHealth Care business and IT leadership

  • Understand application / services cost run rates and recommend areas for cost reduction

  • Build new or refine existing operational processes that complement enterprise practices where gaps exist

  • Participate in creation of IT performance measurements including Leading Key Performance Indicators (LKPIs), Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and Operational Level Agreements (OLAs) related to critical UnitedHealth Care systems

  • Understand the strategic direction of the business and related IT platforms Rationalize and challenge IT Capital project plans and spend related to capability domains to ensure focus on strategic systems

  • Work closely with business constituents to ensure IT readiness during peak revenue periods

  • Regularly seek opportunities to capitalize on existing enterprise functions as appropriate

  • Work with Information Risk Management to enhance business awareness of IRM programs and policies, remediate vulnerabilities and granted security exceptions prior to their renewal date

  • Work with Audit and Compliance in support of successful SOX / SAS70 audits and the Entitlement review process 

  • Make recommendations for change based on business value and need, including revenue opportunities

  • Work closely with other leaders within the office of the CIO to establish, communicate, and implement strategic capabilities

Requirements

Required Qualifications:


  • Relevant Bachelor's degree or experience equivalent

  • 10+ years of experience in IT, with exposure to multiple areas in development, infrastructure and operational support in a large enterprise environment

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in IT in a large enterprise environment

  • Senior level management interface and presentations

  • Creation of comprehensive measurement dashboards

  • Experience with IT best practice/ITIL, with certification desired

  • Experience creating IT Performance measurements including: Leading Key Performance Indicators (LKPIs), Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and Operational Level Agreements (OLAs)

Assets:



  • ITIL certification

  • Healthcare management experience

  • Healthcare claims systems highly desired

  • Call Center systems

  • Project Management

  • Business Analysis

  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM)

  • Big 4 and/or Professional Services consulting

  • Graduate Degree
