Position Description:
This NLP Software Engineer will work closely with linguists and medical coders to develop state-of-the-art medical NLP software with the aim of reducing the cost of healthcare. The department is looking for a self-motivated individual who would be willing to learn and work in multiple technologies, both individually and as a part of cross-functional teams.
This position reports to the Director of Software Engineering, NLP Innovation.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Research and identify of new technologies, systems and/or applications of relevance to company NLP goals.
- Design and develop software over the full life cycle, from system requirements definition to implementation, integration, and testing.
- Develop, enhance, and maintain complex software systems.
- Resolve customer reported defects.
- Develop internal tools to support the department's linguists and medical coders.
- Maintain NLP and improve accuracy and performance of NLP engines.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years' experience in software development
- 3+ years experience in at least one of these technologies: .NET, C++, or Java
- Knowledge of design patterns
- 1+ years SQL experience
- Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Mathematics or a related discipline
- Good problem solving skills
- Good communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Python experience
- Experience with Drools
- MS SQL experience
- WCF and/or Web Services experience
- Understanding of formal linguistics: morphology, syntax, semantics, discourse and/or pragmatics
- Unit testing experience
- Experience analyzing very large datasets
- Experience with natural language processing techniques and text analytics
