Position Description:

This NLP Software Engineer will work closely with linguists and medical coders to develop state-of-the-art medical NLP software with the aim of reducing the cost of healthcare.  The department is looking for a self-motivated individual who would be willing to learn and work in multiple technologies, both individually and as a part of cross-functional teams.

This position reports to the Director of Software Engineering, NLP Innovation.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Research and identify of new technologies, systems and/or applications of relevance to company NLP goals. 
  • Design and develop software over the full life cycle, from system requirements definition to implementation, integration, and testing. 
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain complex software systems. 
  • Resolve customer reported defects.
  • Develop internal tools to support the department's linguists and medical coders.
  • Maintain NLP and improve accuracy and performance of NLP engines.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • 3+ years' experience in software development
  • 3+ years experience in at least one of these technologies: .NET, C++, or Java
  • Knowledge of design patterns 
  • 1+ years SQL experience
  • Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms  
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Mathematics or a related discipline
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Good communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Python experience 
  • Experience with Drools
  • MS SQL experience 
  • WCF and/or Web Services experience 
  • Understanding of formal linguistics: morphology, syntax, semantics, discourse and/or pragmatics
  • Unit testing experience 
  • Experience analyzing very large datasets
  • Experience with natural language processing techniques and text analytics
