Southwest Medical Associates (SMA) is a multi-specialty group of physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants consisting of over 200 providers, fourteen clinical locations including nine health care centers, five urgent care clinics and an outpatient surgery center. The Medical Assistant works cooperatively with the care team to support the vision of the Patient Medical Home. Provides quality appropriate patient care, utilizing customer service skills throughout the patient care continuum. Collects pertinent patient data and coordinates with provider and team for appropriate patient intervention. Will work with the front office to ensure smooth patient flow, waiting room management, and adherence to Southwest Medical Associates (SMA) policies. Resolves moderately complex issues and defers appropriately to supervision.
 


 Primary Responsibilities:




  • Compliance with customer services standards, scheduling and entering appointments, demographics, and insurance information in IDX



  • Responsible for collection and documentation of patient information to include vital signs, chief complaint, review of medications, allergies, health risk screen information, status of extended care benefits and other services



  • Participates in the monitoring of patients with chronic disease and extended care benefits including verification of eligibility and status of services



  • Assist with phone calls and messages. Documents all call and actions taken



  • Responsible for compliance requirements such as laboratory QC management, waive testing, maintenance of crash cart and drug count as well as other requirements dictated by clinic needs



  • Assist RN and/or provider with the coordination/completion of patient care plan



  • Assists co-workers with duties when requested, to include, but not limited to floating to other areas

Requirements

Primary Qualifications: 




  • High School diploma or GED required

  • Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program with MA diploma required (Nationally Certified Medical Assistant preferred)

  • 1+ years of Medical Assistant experience preferred

  • CPR certification or willing to obtain with in 30 days of hire

  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience preferred
