Overview:
Manages environmental projects in a designated geographic area and provides environmental support to associated departments within the Company; communicates with regulatory officials on regular basis; available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week on an on-call emergency basis, in addition to a normal work schedule

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees all phases of corrective action projects, including planning and implementation
  • Evaluates and manages environmentally impacted sites in such manner as to satisfy the following objectives:
    • Ensures adequate protection of health, environment and safety
    • Optimizes the utilization of Corporate assets
    • Develops effective project strategies by utilizing risk based decision making
    • Manages environmental liability by developing corrective action plans for contaminated sites
    • Negotiates contracts and obtains optimal pricing by utilizing competitive bidding, direct contracts, aggressive negotiations, systems engineering, life cycle project costs and present dollar value calculations
    • Evaluates remediation costs by activity, consultant, state, etc. Recommends changes as appropriate
    • Manages costs associated with remediation, and maximizes potential reimbursements by completing evaluations, determining and implementing the appropriate strategy and maintaining proper documentation
    • Secures and initiates the process to obtain notifications, permits, fees and documentation for project work as required
    • Ensures contractor compliance with applicable regulations, contractual agreements and Company policies
    • Institutes appropriate waste disposal practices and contracts to comply with regulatory requirements
    • Recommends Corporate policies and procedures, and assists in development and implementation
    • Keeps abreast of local, state, and federal regulations relative to environmental compliance, assessment, reimbursement and remediation
  • Advises internal/external partners and provides environmental support during the construction of new facilities, underground storage tank (UST) system removals and installations, site rebuilds, modernization, upgrades and system repairs
  • Conducts Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA's) for existing property and proposed additional property acquisition(s) as requested by Management
  • Provides guidance to internal and external partners in response to activities required for emergency situations, product releases or environmental incidents
  • Maintains electronic information systems (IDS) necessary for tracking project progress and expenses and for evaluating project objectives. Provides status reports to Management in a timely manner
  • Provides environmental expertise at meetings and high level conferences by attending and presenting data as needed
  • Completes other duties, including special projects, investigations and audits, as assigned by Management

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a Science related discipline
  • 5+ years of related job experience
  • Experience in a highly specialized field or trade preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise with Word, Excel, and other MS Office suite applications
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to research and resolve issues
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations
  • Good understanding of intra-department functions and operations
  • Ability to work with little to no immediate supervision
  • Ability to perform repeated bending, standing, and reaching
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds
