Role Description

As an Operator Mechanic, you will be working in a manufacturing environment as the primary operator (with other individuals) on a specialized packaging machine. This activities involves setting-up, operating, cleaning, and troubleshooting each component on the packaging machine in an efficient manner as needed to meet the production schedule. A thorough understanding of the equipment and each job function within the work center along with the ability to troubleshoot problems using strong mechanical skills along with a sense of urgency and understanding of customer service is essential.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Set-up and operate packaging equipment in accordance with established procedures.

• Makes adjustments to machine settings to complete manufacturing jobs accurately and efficiently.

• Maintains and cleans equipment as dictated by internal procedures and system recommendations.

• Disassemble/assemble machine for appropriate format changes.

• Assists in troubleshooting routine equipment issues.

• Perform weekly required lubrication, mechanical/electrical inspections and wet-cleans.

• Perform routine quality checks to ensure that goods produced meet or exceed corporate quality standards.

• Perform all necessary documentation including: batch record material usage, cleaning forms, work orders, etc.

• Ability to work unsupervised.

• Work with a sense of urgency to ensure that production lines run efficiently while minimizing downtime.

• Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), sanitation procedures and general housekeeping as well as all safety practices and procedures.

• Production Area Cleanliness. Ensure appropriate cleans are performed and cleaniliness maintained at all times.

• Lead quick and efficient changeovers to minimize machine down time

• Communicate effectively up and down the Chain of Command.

• Perform any other duties assigned by the Production Supervisor.

• Must be available to work any shift and extended time. Will work on weekends as required to perform preventative maintenance. May be assigned to work on holidays and shutdown.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

Minimum of a High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with a minimum of 3 years experience functioning in a manufacturing environment as either a mechanic or a machine operator. Candidate must be mechanically inclined and have some knowledge of electrical systems. Knowledge and understanding of GMP’s and Food Sanitation in a food or dietary supplement manufacturing plant is preferred.

Technical Skills Requirements:

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively with both supervisors and co-workers

Math Ability:

Ability to accurately calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
