About this job

The SHC Asset and Profit Protection Internship Program is designed
to develop talented college students as they are introduced to the Asset & Profit
Protection program at Sears/Kmart. Upon graduation, the full time program aims
to develop associates to high-performing managers and leaders within the retail
field organization. Sears is one of the nation’s largest and most successful
retailers, operating nearly 930 full-line stores and 1,100 specialty stores,
along with related service businesses. Historically rich yet thoroughly modern
and innovative, Sears is the only retailer where consumers can find each of the
Kenmore, Craftsman and DieHard brand together – among the most trusted and
preferred brands in the U.S. Sears also offers a variety of merchandise and
services through its web sites and several specialty catalogs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This 10 week internship offers a first look into the Asset & Profit
Protection training program in a Sears/Kmart store. You’ll see first-hand what
goes into a successful retail business. You’ll work directly with the Asset Protection
Manager in your assigned store. The APM will guide you through the on-boarding
program where you’ll learn about technical APP competencies. You will also
partner with the management team, where you’ll learn about general management
skills. The Asset Protection Manager Training Program is made up of the
following building blocks that are critical to leadership development:

In-Store Rotations- During the program, you’ll rotate through
various store functions, including receiving, automotive and various sales
areas to gain a broad view of the retail industry and a more focused view on
how Asset and Profit Protection interacts with these businesses in the store.
As with all of our store management positions, you’ll have to be prepared to
work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

Mentor Relationship - Critical to your development will be
relationships with high-performing managers and leaders at Sears who have
proven themselves as drivers of business performance and developers of people.

Structured Development - You will receive structured training and
development through multiple media. Technical and leadership skills will be delivered
through online, self-study, buddy (APM) and classroom-based experiences. You
will not only go through various in-store rotations, but you will also become
familiar with the role of the Asset Protection Manager by having a complete
understanding of the 5 Play Strategy (Profit Protection, Dishonesty, Safety,
People and Innovation & Technology). You will be responsible for Shoplifter
detections and apprehensions, conducting internal investigations, safety
(identifying and reducing causes of customer and associate accidents) as well
as business analytics by developing a shrink strategy for the store to ensure
that you are ready for your future assignment of Asset Protection Manager.

Networking Opportunities - We’ve learned from our former trainees
that the ability to interact with peers and proven leaders within the company
is an important building block of ongoing development; therefore, we ensure you
have these opportunities. These interactions allow you to share common
struggles and grow through shared experiences.

Throughout the program, you’ll receive periodic feedback from
coaches with whom you’ve worked.

Upon college graduation, many Asset Protection management
opportunities will be available to you with the ultimate goal of placing you as
a Zone Asset Protection Manager within 3-4 years. Of course, your future will
depend on your career ambitions, your performance, and the business results you
achieve.
