Business Intelligence Technical Lead - Full-time / Part-time

The Optum Data Management (ODM) Business Intelligence Pillar supports a diverse portfolio of enterprise Business Intelligence (BI) and reporting platforms and applications. As the strategic enabler of BI within UnitedHealth Group and Optum, the organization enables and supports over 250 business areas and 10,000 active users – both internal and external to the company. Solutions span numerous BI technologies including IBM Cognos, SAP Business Objects, Tableau and MicroStrategy. Our team needs an experienced, innovative technical leader to further evolve and improve our platform service offerings.

Job Responsibilities for this position:

• Technical leader for one or more overlapping projects that enhance or evolve Business Intelligence platforms. Example projects could include:




• Cognos Platform Consolidation, Optimization and/or Upgrades


• BI Portal Modernization


• Cognos LDAP to Active Direction Migration


• Security Audit, Evaluation, Integration, and Enhancements


• Platform Operational Metric Enhancements


• Administration Automation


• Windows 2003 remediation


• Supervise work efforts of 2-10 dotted line, part-time, project team members having a variety of roles. Supervision can include work assignment, quality review, estimation, escalation, innovation, and/or status communication.


• Support evolution of platform roadmaps


• Lead or contribute to identification, definition, and scoping of future platform projects based on current state evaluation, policy, industry trends, and customer requests


• For smaller projects, perform the project management function. For larger projects a project manager would be assigned. 


• Engage and work with technical partners (Information Risk Management, Infrastructure) as needed to complete project objectives 


• Occasionally drive or assist on resolution on very challenging cross-technology technical issues


• Perform hands-on server and/or vendor product installation, configuration, tuning and/or development.

Required Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.


• 8 or more years of application development  experience


• 4 or more years of experience in technical leadership roles on information technology projects


• 3 years Technical experience in any of the following Business Intelligence Products: Cognos or Tableau

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2 or more years of experience working on complex, cross departmental, information technology project


• Experience administering or supporting vendor products


• Windows 2008 or later


• LDAP 


• SQL Server Administration Experience


• Cognos Administration Experience


• Tableau Administration Experience


• Sagent Administration Experience
