Systems Software Engineer - Full-time / Part-time

Title: System Software Test Engineer
Location: San Jose, CA
Duration: 6 months (Quarterly renewal)

The Network and Content Security (NCS) team is looking for a motivated and talented senior level software development engineer to join its Security Platform and Infrastructure team, to play a key role on the design and development of the current generation and next generation security platform.
The ideal candidate demonstrates sound understanding of Linux/FreeBSD Operating System, software infrastructure and application frameworks. Broad knowledge of and exposure to the Operating Systems, Open Source software and shared application infrastructure are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities:
- Work with multiple project teams of engineers involved in development of software for security hardware, including the opportunity to work on next-generation Security Services Platform.
- Work closely with a cross-functional team to design and implement new features.
- Review and sign off on requirements documents.
- Write specification documents and drive sign-off.
- Implement new security features and extend existing functionality.
- Assist with the definition and architecture of shared components across multiple security products.
- Assist with the design, development and maintenance of system level software, application support libraries, and software components to be shared across a diverse set of security products.

Required Skills:
- Strong experience on Linux/FreeBSD/Unix.
- Virtualization technologies such as VMware, KVM, Xen, HyperV; performance tuning with various hypervisors.
- Experience working with Hypervisor vendors.
- Strong experience with TCP/IP networking.
- Strong experience with Python.
- Strong systems integration and debugging skills.
- Strong experience in software design and implementation of backend related systems.
- Knowledge of industry PC standards (SMBIOS/DMI, UEFI).
- Full product life-cycle experiences.
- Demonstrated experience on one or more complex large-scale Software engineering projects.
- Excellent communication skills.
- MSEE/CS combined with 3+ years of related experience, or BSEE/CS combined with 5+ years related experience.

Desired Skills:
* Familiarity with automated unit and integration testing frameworks.
