Summary : Monitor and operate ash and other auxiliary plant equipment from the field to maintain safe, efficient and continuous plant operations. Perform maintenance and minor repairs to ash handling and other assigned auxiliary systems.

Essential Functions :

1. Monitors and operates the ash handling system in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner. Performs maintenance and minor repairs to ash handling and other assigned auxiliary systems.

2. Recognizes and mitigates operating difficulties and adapt to changing plant conditions with regard to maximizing plant safety and efficiency, and minimizing down time. Operates plant equipment and systems with assistance and guidance from PO to ensure proper functioning.

3. Makes rounds and checks conditions of designated plant equipment, records operational data on log sheets. Completes assigned inspections.

4. Shovels loose materials such as sand, gravel, metals, plastics, or chemicals into machine hoppers or into vehicles and containers such as wheelbarrows, scrap truck, or barrels.

5. Assists the Plant Operator in the daily operation and maintenance of the plant from the field.

6. Maintains the work area in clean, neat, and orderly condition at all times.

7. May be required to relieve the Equipment Operator as needed.

8. Completes the Corporate and Plant Training Programs within the time frame prescribed.

9. Follows standard safety procedures, corrects safety and environmental hazards, and reports them to the Shift Supervisor immediately. Reads, understand, and applies information such as, lockout/tagout procedures, safety rules, job hazard analyses, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

10. Works overtime.

11. Works rotating shifts.

12. Communicates clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing; as well as communicates clearly whether using in-situ intercom system, two-way radio or face to face.

13. Anticipates typical problems, identifies potential or recurring problems, and takes appropriate action. Troubleshoots equipment and assist in diagnosing problem areas.

14. Operates other equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer type loaders, and other mobile equipment.

15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience :

· High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent

· Mechanical abilities sufficient to perform equipment maintenance and minor repair such as replacement of shear pins, valve repacking, strainer cleaning, and general preventative maintenance.

Certificates and Licenses:

Massachusetts – Within one year of hire, must possess or have ability to obtain Licenses to drive all power mobile equipment such as forklifts, manlifts, and skid steer type loaders, (min. requirement 1C / 2C License) and operate boilers (Second Class Fireman license).

Other - Licenses as required by State, Federal, Environmental and/or Health/Safety Regulatory agencies.

Supervision Received :

· Perform job duties within prescribed standards. Minimal supervision necessary once varied tasks are mastered.

Physical Demand:

· Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, corrected or otherwise

· Operate a 1.5 inch fire hose operating at 125 psi line pressure to the extent required to extinguish fire

· Operate fire extinguishing equipment ranging from hand held extinguishers to 200 lb portable units

· Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12” by 16” manways

PPE Required :

Work in areas under adverse conditions that may require the donning and use of personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, the following with average fatigue:

· Negative pressure respirator

· Positive pressure respirator

· Self-contained breathing apparatus (steel or composite bottle)

· Hardhat

· Approved safety shoes

· Eye protection

· Rubber suit and gloves

· Chemical resistant suit

· Heat resistant outerwear

· Flame resistant outerwear

· Approved hearing protection

· Gloves

· Safety harness

Environmental Conditions :

· Moving mechanical parts

· Wet or humid conditions (non-weather)

· Airborne particles

· Potential exposure to dust, and chemicals
