JOB TITLE: Shipping Clerk

Location: Watertown, MA

JOB STATEMENT

Supports the activities of the lab plus other lab locations when needed. In brief, the work scope includes preparing sample containers and for the shipping of sample bottles and glass syringes to customers, cleaning of glass sampling syringes, repackaging and assembling of sampling materials and containers. Some basic computer skills are required in order to retrieve, process and distribute and otherwise manage the shipments of these materials. Specific functions are listed below.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assembling and preparing sample materials and containers for shipping and receiving. Retrieving, recording and filing of shipment data using a computer based program in an accurate and timely manner
  • Outgoing shipments are time sensitive and have to be proposed in a timely manner.
  • Completing shipping and receiving reports
  • Responsible for keeping track of shipping materials inventory to ensure shipments are processed in a timely manner
  • Solvent cleaning of sampling syringes and reassembly
  • Orderly and timely shelving of laboratory supplies that arrive
  • Aid in log-in of samples when needed
  • Answering telephones and miscellaneous office support
  • Interaction with clients and co-workers
  • Responsible for adhering to all Company safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Related duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager, Director or VP of Laboratory Services

REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures for shipping or the ability to learn them quickly.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is often required to sit, stand for extended periods of time, walk, use computers, read, write, use fax machines, use copy machines, use telephones and utilize written and oral communication to interact with clients and co-workers. Good English speaking and understanding skills are required.
  • The employee is often required to perform manual tasks, such as lifting up to 40 pounds on occasion, 15 pounds routinely, and moving sample and solvent containers, preparing sample packaging which requires arm strength and dexterity.
  • Highly organized, attention to detail and punctuality are required

HAZARDS

  • Work involves use of solvents for cleaning purposes, possibility of sharp glass from broken containers, industrial and vegetable oils.
  • Syringes are only used for industrial samples, there are no needles involved and there is no biomedical or nuclear waste involved.

Work Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 8 hours/day. This work does not involve 2nd or 3rd shifts.
  • Overtime may be required under some circumstances especially during summer months
