The Huntsville facility has been in operation since 1969, and PPG Industries, Inc. is the world's leading supplier of transparencies for business aviation, commercial and military aircraft. In addition, PPG Aerospace produces a line of specialty transparencies using related technologies including an aircraft “Repair Business” which refurbishes damaged windshields to like new condition and automotive ballistics. Manufacturing is a complex working environment in which simultaneous production is in progress on hundreds of product designs using a wide variety of complex technologies. Products are produced in relatively low volume and have very high unit value. New product introductions occur continuously.

Summary Job Duties

· Performs electrical, mechanical or electronic work necessary to maintain machinery, equipment, buildings, and other plant facilities.

· Inspects, lubricates repairs, fabricates, assembles, and installs all plant equipment.

· Analyze and trouble-shoot equipment and machinery faults and take actions to correct the problem.

· Obtains materials, special tools and supplies from Storeroom or other designated areas as required to perform functions. Returns tools and materials to their proper location. Keeps work areas clean and orderly. Safety inspects tools before and after use and reports any discrepancies to supervision.

· Takes initiative to study, train and become familiar with all plant equipment and systems.

· Operates machine tools, hand tools, test equipment, and all other types of maintenance equipment.

· Assists with the training of maintenance trainees and apprentices in the practical aspects of maintenance work.

· Obeys all plant general and safety rules, stays alert at all times to both general and specific hazards, makes proper and appropriate use of safety equipment and works in a manner to Insure the safety of self and others.

· Knowledge of and compliance to all OSHA regulations related to the work performed.

· Understands and applies the rules related to Life Critical work situations.

· Understands and uses required PPE protection for all jobs required.

· Attend training sessions as designated by supervision.

· Operates material handling equipment as required in performance of duties.

· Works well with minor direction to select and complete work orders safely and in the time allotted when possible.

· Must be able to use plant Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to open, update, edit and/or close Preventative Maintenance (PM’s) and Work Orders.

· Dedicated to a well-executed PM and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) based maintenance platform.

· Respond to any emergency breakdowns with a sense of urgency and work safely with production to resolve any issues.

· Ability to work well with outside service and in-depth service manuals to gain specific knowledge of equipment.

· Performs other related duties as directed by supervision.

Qualifications

· Minimum 4 years Journeyman experience

· Completion of a certified Apprenticeship program

· Good Oral and Written Communication skills

· Experience with maintenance CMMS systems with Work Order documentation and Work Order closeout

· Additional computer skills or trade skills a plus
