Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, the incumbent will provide support for the administrative and clinical leadership of the Nursing Deparment. The responsibilities include the following:

. Assumes responsibility for the management of areas to ensure optimal patient outcomes are achieved.

. Serves as a resource for nursing staff.

. Works with nursing staff, other professionals, units/departments and/or community agencies.

. Identifies operational problems and takes appropriate action to correct the specific problem.

. Maintains appropriate staffing coverage for clinical units, ensuring standardized data is used in staffing decisions.

. Supervises and evaluates nursing unit personnel for a specific shift in accordance with established evaluation criteria and personnel polices.

. Evaluates nursing staff in accordance with established standards of care, evaluation criteria and personnel policies.

. Mediates problems involving patient/families, hospital personnel and public.

. Participates in implementation and monitoring of the hospital and department policies, procedures, goals and cost containment measures.

. Administers medications and medical treatment error-free in accordance with departmental procedures and physician orders. Provides nursing interventions and nursing education groups in accordance with the program and schedule.

. Completes nursing documentation relevant to Treatment Plan. Provides timely and thorough documentation of patient behavior, medication administration, treatment planning, and treatment interventions. Documentation reflects professional standards.

. Conducts shift report, makes staff assignments, and assures that both milieu schedule and behavioral interventions are implemented in accordance with physician orders, therapist recommendations, unit program, and the treatment plan. Participates in interdisciplinary treatment team, provides input to Treatment Plans, staff meetings.

. Conducts admissions, transfers, and discharges. Assures that nursing documentation is completed for admissions, transfers, and discharges in a timely manner.

. Provides direct supervision of seclusion and restraint in accordance with age-specific interventions, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. Assures patient rights are protected, and acts to prevent, identify and report abuse.

. Adheres to facility philosophy, Code of Ethics, Standards of Conduct, Performance Improvement and corresponding Policies and Procedures. Works to maintain safety and emergency preparedness, and reports incidents, treatment errors, or unsafe conditions. Maintains general employee expectations, and performs other duties as assigned.

BSN Preferred. Prefer two years of work experience in a psychiatric treatment setting with children, adolescents or adults.

2 - 4 years experience in a supervisor or management position in a nursing leadership role.

Licensed as a registered Nurse in Illinois .

A thorough knowledge of JCAHO, Medicare, OSHA regulation a nd all other state and federal Regulatory standards.
