Success for V.P. Clinical

VP of Clinical Vision: Determine 3-5 year strategic plan for Clinical and broader DVx enterprise. Partner with segments and functional leaders to determine intermediate and long term clinical needs; with focus on improving patient adherence and clinical outcomes. Translate 3-5 year strategy to appropriate 12 -24 month tactics.

Key to the success of this role is the development of 1-3 year strategic clinical strategy and tactics for businesses; including deep partnership in managing parent DaVita Kidney Care leadership and customer relationships.

In addition, the VP of Clinical will hire | develop clinical leaders aligned with strategic vision; special focus and urgency around helping DaVita Rx and its patients increase medication adherence through behavioral and cognitive interviewing and other best demonstrated and innovative practices. Goal is to augment internal skills sets and develop internal bench of clinical leaders for growth over future years.

Partner with matrix leaders to ensure seamless communication; execution and partnership of clinical enterprise strategy including clinical innovation, technology and pharmacy practice development.

Key Characteristics and Skills Needed for the Role:

Leadership (top priority): Determine organizational needs on frequent basis; ensure that 'best in class' clinical leadership is being hired and developed internally; scale leadership capability as business grows; relentlessly align strategy changes to organizational capability. Review gaps and future needs, establish internal development plans and align with future needs of the business. Goal is to have a leader that is fantastic developer of talent within the DaVita culture; and is able to marry future strategy to organizational need looking 12-36 months into the future. Particular strength in transitioning from functional to matrix organizational structure highly beneficial.

Strategic Clarity: The VP of Clinical will develop a compelling 3-5 year clinical vision and supporting strategy focused on clinical value for DaVita Rx patients and stakeholders. Upon completion of the clinical vision, the VP of Clinical will translate into appropriate tactics and goals to ensure that the vision is obtained with appropriate supporting metrics to manage on a go forward basis.

Status: Overall near term (2015) goals in place, some challenge in developing and managing key metrics supporting priorities. Significant challenge in prioritizing 'ad hoc' goals that are identified throughout the year due to changing business landscape; resource allocation difficult given growing needs of the business. Must focus and execute in this area to improve work/life balance for Clinical Leadership.

Culture development: The VP of Clinical will embody the DaVita and DaVita Rx culture of treating Teammates as well as treating patients. Must be highly capable in developing leaders; providing feedback effectively; and creating a special place that high performing leaders and teammates are empowered and desire to work within. Improve teammate engagement yearly as part of the annual engagement survey; focus on recognizing teammates for achieving results and celebrating DaVita Rx clinical successes.

Key Requirements of the Position:

1. Must be capable of developing / growing leaders; healthy neighborhoods (culture); and growing capability.

o Strong capability in hiring, on boarding, mentoring and developing high performing teams

o Must be able to hire, mentor, develop and manage Clinical Teams in matrix structure

2. Strong understanding of board of pharmacy requirements, pharmacy and medical best practices; federal requirements; etc.

3. Strong understanding of best practices in improving patient adherence without being part of the direct care giving setting (e.g. telemedicine, telephonically, text, email; etc.).

4. Must have strong knowledge of best practices/awareness of processes; metrics, structures that lead to successful Clinical & patient outcomes

o Ability to translate stakeholder requirements into clinical, adherence, culture/metrics

o Strong financial understanding, clinical budgets, and 'fact based' decision making process.

o Has successfully created/grew novel and innovative patient adherence programs to enable increased patent adherence through multiple medium. Closed door pharmacy settings preferred.

o 15 years leading pharmacy clinical strategy; pt. engagement at senior | executive level role(s). (VP, CMO, etc.)

o RPh (Pharm D or equivalent); MBA preferred but not required (based on experience/work history)

o Proven track record in building high performing teams

o Proven track record in developing best in class clinical programs; world class team engagement (internal and extended teams; e.g. DaVita and Health Care Partners)

o History of engaging matrix organization and successfully turning strategy into reality; changing culture to new/improved clinical performance

* Practical, pragmatic -- has a bias for action (rather than excessive research and analysis)

* Independent, driven, willing to drive to action, accept feedback, course correct
