The Bureau of Automotive Repair is currently recruiting for a Program Representative I position in the Riverside Field Office.

Under the general supervision of the Program Representative III (Supervisor), the Program Representative I (PR I) enforces the laws and regulations governing automotive repair and smog check services. Under supervision or as part of an investigative team, the PR I investigates consumer complaints and develops recommendations for appropriate disciplinary action. The incumbent performs the full range of PR I duties, in accordance to the Bureau of Automotive Repair Operating Guidelines and Procedures Manual. The PR I is required to travel regularly throughout assigned geographic areas. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Investigations

*Physically examines vehicles and a variety of records to secure or verify information concerning suspected violations and violators. Documents confirmed violations for resolution of complaints.

*Identifies, gathers, assembles and preserves statements, affidavits, automotive components of various weights and sizes as well as other evidence for use in legal action.

*Communicates with consumers and repair facilities in writing, by telephone, or in person to develop facts while investigating consumer complaints. Takes statements and interviews witnesses.

*Prepares detailed investigative reports to recommend appropriate disciplinary actions.

*Conducts covert undercover vehicle/surveillance operations to ensure compliance with laws pertaining to automotive repair and smog check services.

Field Inspections

Conducts statewide inspections of facilities seeking licensure as Smog Check or Lamp and Brake Stations to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Automotive Repair Act. Duties may also include:

*Quality Assurance (QA) Inspections

*Gold Shield Inspections

*Consumer Assistance Program (CAP) referrals and repair verification

Public Outreach

*Provides presentations and information to individuals or groups of automotive repair dealers regarding the Automotive Repair Act and BAR programs.

*Assists consumers and repair facility representatives who contact the field office in person or by telephone with requests for information pertaining to the Automotive Repair Act and BAR programs.

*Attends job-related meetings.

Provide Expert Testimony

*Testifies in court, as an expert witness, on BAR investigations.

Qualifications: Experience performing automotive mechanical or collision repair or automotive mechanical or collision inspection duties. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and are expected to drive vehicles safely, It is highly desirable that applicant possess current licenses such as Lamp Installer Adjuster, Brake Installer Adjuster, and Smog Technician licenses.
