The Storage and Server technical expert will provide operational support and guidance to the company's internal clients. This role is expected to perform at a technical expert level in server administration and consultative practices.


 


The Sr. Storage Engineer will be responsible for providing technical support of servers, blades, and various software applications including but not limited to Windows, VMWare, Linux, Net Backup, etc., in a team environment. Answers questions about installation, operation, configuration, customization, performance, and usage of assigned products. This position requires an ability to effectively interact and coordinate with several different development teams and operations teams within the Information Technology department. This applicant consults with the application development groups to ensure consistent quality of the distributed systems. Applicant must possess strong customer service skills with the ability to make decisions with little or no management intervention. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.


 


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Server Administration - Day-to-day administration of Servers

  • Storage Support – EMC and Virtualization

  • Performance Tuning – maintaining predictable performance levels

  • Responsible for performing daily operational tasks like server provisioning and maintaining availability

  • Design & Architecture - Design and implement reliable, highly available architecture

  • Provision servers based on standardized procedures as outlined in internal documents

  • Performs necessary server infrastructure maintenance in accordance with internal best practices

  • Provide On-call of Additional Roles: File Systems/Volume Mgt., Host-based Migration, Status Reporting, BC/HA Planning/Design, Capacity Planning/Design, Performance Monitoring

  • Communication - Develop relationships with other Infrastructure groups

  • Documentation – Document critical processes and procedures to ensure consistency and quality

  • Develop procedures and processes to ensure that Audit and Regulatory requirements are met

  • This position requires a high level of independent thinking and the ability to solve problems in a stressful environment

 


ACCOUNTABILITY/DECISION MAKING



  • The individual will be motivated with the ability to be self-directed and work well independently in support of customer service level agreements.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:



  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or related discipline or equivalent work experience.

  • 7+ years of IT experience

  • 7+ years of enterprise Server and Storage support experience inclusive of hands-on experience

  • Expert knowledge with system hardware and support contracts

  • Expert knowledge of the following are required: EMC Storage platforms, VMWare Virtual Center Infrastructure, Microsoft Server 2008/2012 Configuration and management, Linux/Unix, Microsoft patching utilities, supporting applications within the server environment

  • Experience working in a fast paced enterprise production environment

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

  • Strong ability to organize tasks and determine priorities

  • Strong ability to provide accurate and valid information

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Symantec Antivirus tools and utilities a plus

  • Internet Information Services (IIS5 and IIS6) experience a plus

  • Certifications such as MCSE, EMCxx, Linux, etc.
