Job Summary As a comprehensive performing arts school set in one of the world's finest public institutions of higher education, the School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD) is deeply engaged in the creation, practice, scholarship, and pedagogy of music, theatre, and dance. The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) will serve as a key strategic advisor to the Dean. The CAO has primary responsibility for the overall planning, allocation and stewardship of SMTD financial, physical plant, information technology, and staff human resources. The CAO provides resource policy development and implementation; and provides analytical support to the Dean and other senior administrators on a wide range of strategic issues. The CAO manages a group of employees who provide the Schools financial services, information management and analysis, employee relations functions, building management, information technology infrastructure and support, and faculty support services.

Responsibilities* * Responsible for the budgetary affairs of the School. Manages resources to ensure long-term financial health

* Manages the annual University budget planning process

* Manages and provides strategic oversight to the Director of Finance, HR, and Facilities in the following areas:

- Developing and monitoring SMTD annual operating budget and financial reporting processes

- Monitoring fiscal status and planning of financial aid budget and disbursement

- Preparation and analysis of financial reports and forecasting activity

- Developing long-term plans and/or models to project the impact of changes

or new assumptions affecting the schools human, IT, financial, and space resources

- Oversight of human resource administrative functions of the School

- Oversight of SMTD facilities and major renovations from concept to occupancy

* Assesses budget implications of new initiatives and advises the Dean and Associate Deans on the impact of resource allocation decisions and commitments, and communicates arising matters

* Ensures excellence, effectiveness and efficiency in the Schools business operations

* Oversees information technology for the School including IT strategic planning and uses for technology to achieve optimal efficiency of operations

* Develops and implements effective policies, procedures, and controls for administrative functions; advises the Dean on University policies, procedures, and best practices across campus

* Builds strong working relations with the Provost's staff to provide effective collaboration and problem-solving that align with the University's and School's missions

Required Qualifications* * Masters degree in Business Administration and/or equivalent combination of education and experience

* Substantial experience in higher education administration and leadership

* Extensive experience with higher education budgets; ability to lead the planning and development of a budget that meets School and University needs

* Years of demonstrated, successful leadership, ability to integrate services, administer and manage change, and provide responsive support services

* Experience managing data and converting it into actionable information

* Knowledge of issues related to human resources, financial, information technology, and facilities management in a large and diverse organization

*Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including communication with executive officers, deans, faculty and staff

*Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures

* A strong record of working effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and direct reports in a multicultural and diverse environment
