Position Summary: The Certified Nursing Assistance assists in basic patient care under the direction of the Nurse Manager and general supervision of the staff nurse. The CNA is responsible for the care appropriate to the ages of the patients served-including adolescent, adult and geriatric. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret

information in terms of the patient's needs; possesses knowledge of growth and development; and has an understanding of the range of treatment needed for these patient groups.

Key Accountabilities / Competencies

1. Assessment of Patients: Systematically and continually contributes data for assessment of the health and status of the patient, assuring the application of age specific standards, communicating all changes in status to the nurse.

2. Provides observations to the RN and other team members regarding the patient's functional status for the purpose of accurate FIM (Functional Independence Measures) scoring.

3. Care of the Patient: Provides and prioritizes patient care activities to deliver safe, efficient care in a timely manner, following policies established by the department/Hospital.

4. Collaborates with physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology to ensure implementation of an interdisciplinary care plan.

5. Education of patient/family: Provides patient/family education under the direction of a Registered Nurse, with regard to assessing ability to learn, special learning needs, and evaluating effectiveness of teaching, using age specific standards relevant to each patient.

6. Surveillance, prevention and control of infection: Follows established policies and procedures to identify and reduce the risks of acquiring or transmitting infection by use of personal protective measures.

7. Management of information: Communicates information to appropriate person/s accurately and timely, through verbal, written and computer technology of the department.

8. Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system and uses the system to report potential safety issues.

Current Nursing Assistant Certification.

Current BLS.

Formal nurse aid training.

Previous CNA or unit secretary experience preferred.

Ability to lift 50 pounds. Must able to push and pull up to 150 pounds on cart. Knowledge of medical terminology. Good customer service skills.
