Responsible for the day-to day Operations, Maintenance and Restoration of an assigned portion of the fiber optic network. To include the installation and maintenance of equipment and facilities at multiple Long Distance Transport sites . Possess strong technical skill level working on non-routine to complex installation and/or maintenance activities within the network systems or switching equipment. Knowledgeable in Long Haul fiber optic networks, Transport equipment (Nortel, Ciena/ONI, Cisco, Alcatel/Lucent, Fujitsu, Infinera), DC power plants, AC switch gear, generators, and OSP Cable splicing & restoration and fiber locating and marking processes. Utilizes software and hardware to identify, diagnose and resolve complex network problems/trouble tickets involving inside/outside plant, power, and digital cross connect systems, narrowband and broadband links and associated equipment. Provide backup support for other technicians when needed. Interface with Transport, IP Engineering, Construction, NOCs and others doing work in National Networks. Responsible for installation, operation, and maintenance, testing ability of various transport equipment and Test and turn-up new circuits, responsible for cross-connects and circuit grooms. Able to use testing equipment such as; OTDR, Digital Lightwave, T-berd 310/224, Fireberd 6000 equipment. Understand the fundamentals of AC and DC power, DC power plants including Battery backup. Job Requirements Basic Qualifications:

Technical telecommunication knowledge to include Outside Plant, Fiber fusion splicing, Fiber Locating, Test Equipment, SONET Transport, DC Power, IP Services, and Ethernet Services with troubleshooting and installation experience in these technologies. Comprehensive understanding of circuit provisioning to include voice, IP data and narrow/broad-band circuits. Capable of preparing or critiquing a MOP related to any job functions or equipment for which technicians are responsible. Reside within the geographical area of assigned responsibilities. Be able to support operations and network disruptions caused during disaster situations which would include working a flexible work schedule on holidays, weekends and off hours. Must be able to learn new technologies that are continually being added to the network to meet the needs of the customer base. Posses a valid state vehicle operator's license with a satisfactory driving record in accordance with applicable state law(s). Familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to understand and communicate using technical concepts, practices and terminology. Available to be called after hours 7x24. Ability to self-manage responsibilities in order to achieve daily results. Able to read and make update with as-built drawings and other Engineering documents. Able to work in confined spaces. OSP Cable splicing & fiber restoration which potentially will include hand digging by shovel to depths of 2-3 feet, pulling fiber optic cable on flat/uneven/hilly terrain for up to mile, fusion splicing and lifting of various tool boxes & test equipment of up to 75lbs.
