Position Overview

Siemens Molecular Imaging is seeking a Director for its Clinical Applications research group, reporting to the Vice President, Research and Clinical Collaborations. The Clinical Applications group has global responsibility for bringing clinical software applications innovations from the clinic to engineering for incorporation into the product. The group is responsible for identifying and solving molecular imaging research problems relevant to clinicians and aligned with Siemens' objectives. The Research and Clinical Collaborations (RCC) Department is responsible to identifying and developing and protecting innovations in PET, SPECT, and related clinical SW applications and helping to transfer them into product solutions, as well as managing collaborations with leading institutions around the globe.

Responsibilities

The Director, Clinical Applications, Research and Clinical Collaborations is responsible for the definition and execution of the innovation and technology strategy for Clinical SW Applications, aligned with overall Siemens Molecular Imaging interests, as well as for leading a team of 6-7 scientists and additional students and interns. The team is responsible for defining innovation/technology roadmaps and for identifying pertinent clinical problems and clinical workflow problems relevant to Siemens and providing solutions to address them in its products. The definition of clinical problems involves exploration of the suitable medical and technological field and direct contact with technologists, clinicians, and hospital administrators.

Main responsibilities:

* Defines and executes the technology and innovation strategy and business roadmap for the Clinical SW Applications team, including how the team complements/overlaps other existing teams in Siemens Molecular Imaging (MI). Refines the business and technology strategy as the customer landscape evolves

* Assures transfer of technologies into product solutions by working closely with other R&D teams and product management

* Actively promotes communication, exchange of ideas between the team and other related teams in RCC, engineering, product definition, marketing and customer relationship management

* Collaborates openly and proactively throughout Siemens Healthcare to develop cross-cutting technologies that are of high impact to Siemens Healthcare overall

* Identifies collaboration project opportunities with existing and new customers for clinical SW applications

* Establishes and maintains strong customer relationships

* Ensures the high visibility of the research of the team within Siemens MI as well as within the academic community

* Oversees the cost center for the teams activities

* Manages and develops team members for long term careers in Siemens Healthcare

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

* Ph.D. in computer science /electrical engineering / biomedical engineering or related field and a proven record in research, research management, innovative thinking, real world problem solving, prototyping, and team development

* A minimum of 10 years' experience is required

* Demonstrated experience in defining and creating research or product solutions in at least one cross-sectional medical imaging modality

* Demonstrated ability to lead in cross-functional teams and in international virtual teams

* International and domestic travel (20-25%) is required (customers and conferences)

* Demonstrated outstanding technical leadership in one or more fields

* Experience with physician/university collaborations

* Excellent communication skills, written and oral

* Excellent interpersonal skills and can do attitude

* Knowledge of business drivers for medical imaging

* Ability to multi-task and follow through in spite of obstacles

* Detail oriented and organized

* Strong collaboration skills and ability to thrive in a virtual and fast-paced environment.

* Flexibility and adaptability to work in a growing, dynamic team with diverse expertise

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

Prior experience in medical product development and quality systems is preferred. Exposure or experience with health care system differences around the world is preferred. Prior experience in more than one medical imaging modality is preferred. Experience in project management preferred.
