The Psychiatric Institute of Washington provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare for children, adolescents, adults and senior adults suffering from mental health and addictive illnesses. We are a 124-bed, short-term, acute care hospital offering inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient hospitalization, as well as specialized treatment programs for chemical dependency. Founded in 1967, PIW combines the rich traditions of its past with the behavioral health options of the present. We have an excellent reputation as an innovative hospital with caring, dedicated staff, experienced in the delivery of behavioral healthcare. We currently have a position available for a PRN Utilization Reviewer. Candidates selected will be responsible for the following:

Ability to present the case for patients need for hospital treatment to the review company representative in a convincing and assertive manner.

Ability to problem solve in a team manner and take initiative to be a self-starter.

Ability to analyze and compile data from patient records in a timely and accurate manner.

Knowledge of Joint Commission and Medicare Utilization review standards. Awareness of hospital legal responsibilities.

Tracks new admissions or transfers to assigned area and is responsible for knowing and following through with certification requirements from admission through discharge. Serves as liaison to on-site external reviewers.

Informs department director of changes in managed care companies. Maintains awareness of unique status to propose out of plan benefits or to open the door to increase hospitals opportunity to provide services to a larger group.

Supports and guides treatment planning as needed. Continues to bring to staff awareness the need for documentation to flow from and correlate with treatment plan.

Bachelors degree required with five (5) years psychiatric hospital experience. Masters degree preferred with a minimum of one (1) year psychiatric hospital experience.

Six months psychiatric utilization review either for hospital or external review organization preferred.
