State and Local Tax Consultant

Description: SALT consultants prepare, review and consult on tax returns and reports involving state, local, property, sales, use and other tax liabilities; Responsible for meeting all required deadlines; Maintains current knowledge of all tax laws affecting the company; Reviews proposals for tax implications and recommends actions that meet the business plans while managing the tax liability; Assists in tax audits and refund claims; May be involved with the consultation of tax implications of mergers and acquisitions.
Successful SALT Consultants should possess knowledge and experience in the following or related fields:
Certifications CPA preferred
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Masters in Taxation or Accounting preferred
Minimum 5 years of experience
Mix of public accounting (Big 4 experience a plus) and industry tax experience
Broad exposure to State and Local Taxes including knowledge in State Income/Franchise Tax, Credits and Incentives, Sales and Use Tax, Property Tax, Employment Tax and Unclaimed Property (Escheat); must be eager to work on a variety of SALT issues
Strong tax accounting skills with proficiency in US GAAP, tax compliance, returns and combined state tax returns
Strong software experience with tax software such as CCH, Vertex, One Source, Corp Tax as well as Microsoft Access and Excel
Eligible to work in the US and pass a background check
Willingness and ability to travel preferred
