More About Your Role

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs routine maintenance such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and/or buffing floors
  • Washes and dusts wall, tables, doors, light fixtures, and vending machines
  • Cleans and disinfects toilets, urinals, tile floors, and other fixtures
  • Fills soap, toilet paper, towel and personal hygiene dispensers regularly
  • Empties and maintains trash containers
  • Responsible for inventory stock supply and assists management in placing orders
  • Change batteries in equipment (such as automatic soap, hand sanitizer, air freshener, or towel dispensers)
  • Responds promptly and calmly to customer’s or management’s short notice or on-the-spot maintenance needs, problems, or cleanups
  • Keeps management (work leaders, supervisors, and customers) informed of area activities, any significant problems, and safety or maintenance concerns
  • Meeting set-up and preparation (to include coffee, snacks, etc.)
  • Driving / Purchasing of items needed for meetings


If you are hired as a Day Porter - A day porter typically has the job of keeping public areas clean and orderly. A person in this position often works to keep places like the public areas of hotels, malls, and office buildings clean and orderly. A porter is usually set to work in heavy traffic areas in which most people may expect to see some debris and dirt. Usually works discreetly to keep such places spotless and appealing for those who have to use or even pass through them. A person in this position may have a range of tasks to perform, but they often include cleaning bathrooms, replenishing paper supplies, keeping hallways and lobbies clean, keeping the exterior of a building maintained, and making sure high-traffic areas are free of safety hazards.

Duties typically involve keeping assigned area clean and appealing. For example, may have the job of cleaning and maintaining restrooms, including the toilets, urinals, counters, and sinks. Often responsible for keeping the mirrors and floors clean, emptying trash cans promptly, and drying the floors of any wet spots. Likewise, an individual in this position may have the job of keeping toilet paper and disposable hand towels at the ready.

Often, a day porter also has the job of sweeping up debris that has fallen on the floor of public areas and emptying ash trays. May be asked to keep glass doors, windows, and fixtures free of smudges and fingerprints as well, and dust and clean up any spills.

Additionally, an individual in this position may have the responsibility of making sure safety is maintained in public areas. For example, may be charged with removing obstacles that could lead to trip-and-fall accidents.

Job Requirements:

Required:

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English so that others can understand
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to follow directions and work well independently
  • Ability to use basic cleaning tools
  • A clear criminal and MVR background


Preferred:

  • Previous janitorial/cleaning experience
  • Ability to operate floor equipment (buffer, auto-scrubber, chariot, etc.)
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Ability to drive between close proximity locations
  • Employees with documented disabilities to satisfy our federal contract janitorial services contracts conditions that state 75% of our workforce must consist of individuals with documented disabilities


Physical Abilities Required :

  • Stand and walk for extended period of time
  • Lift up to 50lbs
  • Capable of stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and pulling


Where Would You Be Expected To Work?

The location you may be required to work is based on the janitorial needs of Discover Goodwill. We provide janitorial services to various commercial buildings, Military Bases (Schriever, Academy), Retail Stores, Warehouses, and a Garage. These buildings and facilities are located all around Colorado Springs to include downtown, north, south, east, and west of Colorado Springs. Locations may be as far North as Monument and as far south as Pueblo. Some positions may require you to travel from one location to another so having a vehicle is definitely a plus.

What Hours/Days Would You Be Expected To Work?

Whether you work full time or part time is based on the janitorial needs of Discover Goodwill and the locations. The hours may be during the day or require you to work the second shift (5:00 p.m. – 2:30 am). The janitorial services are typically provided during the work week but you may be required to work on the weekend as well. Our retail locations require days/hours: Monday – Saturday 7:30 pm – 4 am, and Sundays 5:30 pm - 2am. Although rare, this position may require you to work overtime as well. The number of hours you work and the locations you work will also determine the benefits that you may receive.
