The Mental Health Technician is responsible for providing effective patient care under the direction of the Shift Supervisor. The MHT has a significant role in direct patient care and is a principle element in providing a safe and therapeutic environment through assistance in activities of daily living, implementation of therapeutic activities and monitoring of patients. Duties include, but are not limited to: Monitoring and documentation of patient's mood, behavior, and participation with the therapeutic milieu Supervision of patients to ensure safety Teaching, role-modeling, facilitating activities of daily living and educational groups and, Communicating significant patient information to the treatment team to facilitate appropriate treatment interventions.

A P.R.N. mental health technician is not a full-time position. It entails working variable hours and variable shifts.

The Mental Health Technician must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Six months experience in a mental health setting or patient care is preferred.

Skills and knowledge required are good communication and computer skills, the ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out written or oral instructions, ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization, ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism when circumstances warrant such action. Must have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, family members, personnel, and support agencies as a team. Also, must have the ability to handle, prepare food, and properly store food in accordance with the accepted standards for health/hygiene.

This position will entail working variable hours and variable shifts. It is not a full-time position.
