The Wyndham Pittsburgh University Center is looking for a Cocktail Server/Bartender to provide timely, courteous excellent service with guest satisfaction as the primary goal. He/she is responsible for promotion of specials and up selling and is responsible for the complete set up of the bar area and the mixing of drinks for all guests and servers and needs to maintain the service and cleanliness of the bar area, ensuring quality service, guest satisfaction and control over liquor inventory.

The Wyndham Pittsburgh University Center is located on the University of Pittsburgh campus, in the heart of Oakland. It is several blocks from Carnegie Mellon University as well as several UPMC hospitals. This 251 room hotel offers a full-service restaurant and lounge, 7,333-sq foot of meeting space, and an indoor heated pool. Nearby attractions include Heinz Field, Consol Energy Center, PNC Park, Kennywood Park, Sandcastle Waterpark, the Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History, and Point State Park. The Cocktail Server/Bartender is expected to provide timely, courteous service with guest satisfaction as the primary goal. He/she is responsible for promotion of specials and up selling. The position is also responsible for the complete set up of the bar area and the mixing of drinks for all guests and servers and needs to maintain the service and cleanliness of the bar area, ensuring quality service, guest satisfaction and control over liquor inventory.

Fundamental Requirements:

Employees must at all times be attentive, friendly, helpful and courteous to all guests, managers and fellow employees.

Complete opening/closing checklist according to standards.

Welcome guests, take their drink orders relay order to bartender, process order, deliver order to guest and receive payment for order.

Have knowledge of which garnishes go in each drink.

Process credit card and room charges.

Clear and clean tables when guests leave, return glasses to be washed.

Keep lounge area clean and free from debris at all times.

Follow all cash handling policies, and prepare closing report for night audit.

Perform all side work duties according to the schedule.

Full knowledge of and follow all state liquor laws.

Be familiar with the computer system.

Help the bartender prepare drinks when needed.

Assist bartender with hors d'oeuvres tables for cocktail hour in set up and breakdown.

Process guests' checks, collect cash and process credit cards and room charges according to standards .

Perform opening and closing side work according to standards to ensure that guests are served promptly and efficiently.

Prepare beverages and cocktails according to the standards, for mixing, portion control and presentation.

Serve guests with all food and beverage requirements in a warm, friendly, courteous, and professional manner.

Ensure the lounge areas are kept clean and tidy.

Be familiar with the computer system.

Carry out cashiering functions by closing checks and servicing the guest.

Assist in maintaining beverage cost.

Follow prescribed procedures in serving liquor with care to avoid problems with intoxicated guests, and when necessary report to management.

Complete beverage requisitions to maintain par levels as needed. (bottle for bottle method)

Stock and clean glassware.

Check soda tanks to ensure that they are full and secured properly to the bar.

Prepare all garnishes.

Assist in cleaning of tables and all lounge area as needed.

Ensure overall guest satisfaction.

General Requirements:

Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all levels of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner.

Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by guests.

Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.

Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner.

Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.

Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Wyndham Hotel Group Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.

Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which includes wearing the proper uniform and nametag.

Comply with Wyndham Hotel Group Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.

Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas and assist in implementing solutions.

Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.

Must be able to understand and apply complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.

Must be able to cross-train in other hotel related areas.

Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.

Must be able to show initiative, including anticipating guest or operational needs.

Perform other duties as requested by management.

Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent and/or experience in a hotel or a related field preferred.

Must be of legal age to serve alcoholic beverages, according to local state laws.

Physical requirements:

Flexible and long hours sometimes required.

Light work (Cocktail Server) - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Medium work (Bartender) - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and /or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Ability to stand for the entire shift.

Previous bartending experience helpful.
